The decision of whether to run for re-election has not been easy. I truly love the job of being a United States Senator.

But in my heart, I know it’s time to pass the torch.

So, I am announcing today that I will not be seeking re-election at the end of my term.
Across America, families are demanding we do something to address their skyrocketing health insurance premiums. My Republican colleagues must start listening to these families and work with Democrats to extend the ACA enhanced premium tax credits.

Merry Christmas to all those celebrating in Illinois and across the world! I hope you and your families have a day filled with light and joy.

The Trump Administration has gone too far.

The majority of Americans believe that—and so does the Supreme Court’s conservative supermajority.
December 23, 2025 at 10:21 PM
To my congressional Republican colleagues: The first order of business when Congress returns in the new year must be lowering Americans’ health insurance premiums. Otherwise, millions will lose their insurance or see a doubling of their premiums.

The federal government has a responsibility to those in its custody to provide a basic level of care.

But President Trump and DHS Secretary Noem refuse to show even a sliver of humanity to those they have detained.
BREAKING: 30 immigrants have died in ICE custody since Donald Trump took office, making 2025 the deadliest year in ICE detention since the early 2000s.

NEWS: I sent a letter to the Army Corps of Engineers urging them to reimburse the Metropolitan Water Reclamation District of Greater Chicago for its work on the Thornton Composite Reservoir, which will be used to advance shovel-ready projects to address flooding in the Chicago area.

Trans kids just want to live their lives. President Trump shouldn’t be weaponizing crucial Medicaid and Medicare funding to make their lives even harder.
Donald Trump and RFK Jr. are holding Medicaid and Medicare funding HOSTAGE unless hospitals comply with their partisan and anti-trans agenda.

Patients deserve better.

With the recent release of Nobel Peace Prize winner Alex Bialiatski, it’s also long overdue that Belarus release Polish-Belarusian journalist and winner of the Sakharov Prize for Freedom of Thought Andrzej Poczobut.
Jailed Polish-Belarusian journalist Andrzej Poczobut, who has been imprisoned in Belarus since 2021, was awarded the European Parliament’s top humanitarian honor, with the honor accepted on his behalf by his daughter at a ceremony in Strasbourg.

Cutting Medicaid by $1 trillion in the “Big, Beautiful Bill” wasn’t enough for President Trump.

Now, the Trump Administration is threatening to revoke Medicaid and Medicaid funding for any hospital that provides trans kids with the gender affirming care they need & their doctors provide.
BREAKING: Trump, RFK Jr. announce they’ll cut off Medicare and Medicaid funding for any hospital that provides lifesaving gender affirming care to minors—effectively inserting the federal government in between doctors, parents, and patients.

Dan Bongino was a bad pick from the start.

His service was ineffective, and the men and women of the FBI deserve better.

We need a career FBI agent as Deputy Director.

Children are being exploited and abused because Big Tech consistently prioritizes profits over people.

Enough is enough. Time to sunset Section 230.
December 18, 2025 at 8:35 PM
The Trump Administration says that “no one is above the law.”

We agree.

Which is why we just referred potential crimes by immigration agents for investigation and prosecution.

While the Trump Administration refuses to recognize the hard work of educators, I am proud to celebrate Illinois’ Blue Ribbon Schools. I joined @duckworth.senate.gov and @casten.house.gov to introduce a resolution that would give these schools the recognition they deserve
December 18, 2025 at 7:37 PM
We just put federal immigration officials and agents on notice.

Our criminal referral to the Justice Department highlights the unlawful cruelty and abuse faced by Illinoisans at the hands of a rogue Department of Homeland Security.

Senator Duckworth and I want accountability.

Drug trafficking is a terrible crime. But extrajudicial killings aren’t the answer.

Interdict drug vessels. Prosecute violators. Support the needs of victims.

Instead, Donald Trump is weakening all of those efforts.

Unauthorized e-cigarette products are flooding the market and hooking the next generation of kids on nicotine. I introduced the bipartisan S.T.O.P. Illicit Vaping Act to strengthen DOJ and FDA’s activities to crack down on the unlawful sale of harmful vape products.

@shaheen.senate.gov and I met with Bogdan Klich, Head of Mission at the Polish Embassy, to discuss Poland’s important role in NATO and its continued support for Ukraine.

We must stand strong together—the United States, Poland, and Ukraine—to push back against Putin’s relentless march of aggression.

Yesterday, the Senate passed the bipartisan FY26 NDAA. I am happy to see it includes my provisions to ensure that Rock Island Arsenal remains central to our nation’s effort to modernize the military and strengthens security cooperation with our allies around the world.

Joe Biden won the 2020 presidential election.

The Capitol was attacked on January 6, 2021.

Any officer of the law should be able to agree to those facts.
PAINFUL to watch. There’s a clear Trump judicial nominee loyalty test.

They must forever deny, deny, deny that he lost the 2020 presidential election.

Fragile.
December 17, 2025 at 9:34 PM
Jack Smith needs to testify publicly under oath before the Senate Judiciary Committee.

Anything less is unacceptable.
December 17, 2025 at 4:56 PM
This is progress. We must get this done as quickly as possible. If not, Republicans will have to explain to the American people why they allowed health insurance premiums to increase astronomically.

In my opinion, that is indefensible.
Urgent update.

Our bipartisan petition to force a vote on a straightforward extension of the Affordable Care Act tax credits now has 218 signatures.

Mike Johnson should bring the bill to the floor immediately.
December 17, 2025 at 3:32 PM
Congress passed the most important criminal justice reform law in a generation seven years ago.

But the First Step Act was just that—a first step. We must continue reform.

So, I just introduced four bipartisan bills to help make our justice system fairer and communities safer.

This is one of the cruelest things I’ve ever heard a president say.

He is well known for his cruelty, but this is a new depth amid this terrible murder.
December 15, 2025 at 10:02 PM
President Trump has killed at least 87 people without due process.

The Administration refuses to provide any evidence justifying lethal force.

Stop the boats. Confiscate and destroy the drugs. Prosecute the traffickers.

No American is required to CARRY proof of citizenship.

We don’t live in a “papers, please” country.
