My 3 climate home truths: 1) The climate damage from fossil fuels is permanent. 2) without an explicit plan by govts to quickly end fossil fuel use we’re losing the human friendly climate. 3) Without subsidies and a free pass on climate damage the fossil carbon corps assets are stranded. It's just been confirmed that Monash University is dropping Woodside as a partner because they don't align with their sustainable values. This is an incredible win for @stopwoodsidemonash.bsky.social who have run a dedicated grass roots campaign for years.

The fatal problem with modern capitalism is that we’ve allowed corporations to become big enough to control politics and so escape the discipline of the market. The “Wealth of Nations” is in a process of collapse.

The average SNAP benefit per month is $177 a person.
The average ACA benefit per month is up to $550 a person.
People want us to hold the line for a reason. This is not a matter of appealing to a base. It’s about people’s lives.
And working people want leaders whose word means something to them.

Western economies are eating themselves to maintain the profits of multinational corporations that can no longer produce goods and services that consumers value more than the cost of production. This isn’t going to end well for any of us.

My economics is pretty rusty but it seems to me that across the globe investors have forgotten to check whether certain corporations can actually produce a product or service, either at all, or at price that consumers are prepared to pay. 🤷

Looking across AI, data centres, crypto, carbon and biodiversity credit markets and fossil fuels we have trillions of dollars in nominal assets producing either no product or service or products and services where demand sits well below the cost of production. Hype can’t sustain this much longer. 🤷

The worldwide pivot from coal to LNG, a fossil fuel which is 33% more climate damaging, is suicidally stupid for humanity. It’s hard to see resistance within existing democratic institutions as a credible response to such pathological self destruction at the hands of multinational corporations.
