New— An American citizen boarding flight from Boston to Lisbon just now told me after showing boarding pass, every passenger stopped on jetway by two ICE agents demanding to take their photo. When passenger asked why, ICE threatened to detain them. If they said no photo, couldn't board/TBD detained.

trump getting his feelings hurt by european leaders is the culmination of this new type of guy that emerged in the last decade or so: guy who goes out of his way to be a huge asshole who then gets really offended when the people he's being an asshole to don't like him

the man's brain is sludge, he cannot possibly perform the task of commander in chief, so who is performing that task? why isn't every democrat on the hill screaming nonstop about the constitutional crisis? why are they playing along with funding a government led by madman? what is happening even?

We're the hottest country in the world for one reason: a leader who's not afraid to demonstrate his unmatched stamina by going "eeeuuuugh" behind a lectern with his eyes 98 percent closed for 75 minutes, and then taking a few questions from Mike Lindell's cable news channel.

We are collectively experiencing a mass moral injury event. When politicians who profess to share our values—democracy, justice, equal treatment under the law; that is, freedom—refuse to acknowledge the moral injury, they only worsen the psychological harm done, fostering long-term voter resentment.
You cannot overstate how startling it is to see a politician just say the thing with clarity and poise. No fearful hemming. No overwrought qualifying down til it’s meaningless. No lingering sense that there is a loyalty to a donor class or an ideology of stasis that they’d never admit to.
Mamdani: "I am in support of abolishing ICE. What we see is an entity that has no interest in fulfilling its stated reason to exist. We're seeing a government agency that is supposed to be enforcing some kind of immigration law, but instead what it's doing is terrorizing people."

This isn’t something uniquely Trumpian or uniquely Republican, sorry to say.

Arming Israel during the genocide was practically as unpopular as Greenland.
It is not normal for a president to be pushing for a net -80 policy. That Trump apparently does not care about the public opinion on Greenland (or maybe he doesn't know about the polls) is a sign of how far we have drifted from normal democratic government

Biden did this a lot too apparently, his conversational reset tic was "all kidding aside" and this would let him try to save face while getting back on track.

Gerontocracy is a big problem in both parties and it opens the door to predators like Miller who can become uncharismatic unelected Hitlers.

I think the moment I fully lost it with American elite culture was when there was a no-shit bipartisan panic attack over Colorado throwing Trump off the 2024 ballot because of this stipulation
every time I read this, I get apocalyptically apoplectic about how clear it is. it is instant. it does not require explicit congressional action to invoke, it instead only requires that to remove.

donald trump is not the current president right now, according to the constitution.

I've long assumed that most of the right-wing influencer network is just echoing and following trends, rather than coordinated messaging. But, this seems like strong evidence that there is more going on behind the scenes than I thought.
Something strange happened on conservative Twitter on Thursday.

A dozen right-wing influencers suddenly became passionate about semiconductor export policy, posting nearly identical (and often false) attacks over a 27-hour period on a bill most people have never heard of.
