Heyo, I'm Lyarrah!
I'm a queer variety streamer with a focus on Geoguessr, Minecraft, and thinky games.
I've been streaming every night in 2024 (over 300 days now!) so I hope you'll come catch me on Twitch!
Well, finally cancelled my Nitro.
I refuse to have pop-up advertisements ("Quests") in my instant message service, let alone one I'm paying for.
Discord, you've really dropped the ball by making Quests so obtrusive and giving us no way to opt out.

Yes, and: There are lots of reporting jobs at startup nonprofit local news organizations doing really important work outside of corporate ownership, for any journalists willing to consider living outside of the nation's three largest cities!

The Hunger Games trilogy was integral to my own political education and is why now I so often stress how your fellow citizen isn't your enemy, the government is. People love to forget that, but those books really cemented in my mind that class solidarity is crucial to any social justice movement.
performative reading, lack of reading skills, nobody's reading anymore -- NO!

tell me about a book that changed you

for me? the *extremely* ahistorical novel, THE AGONY AND THE ECSTASY which I read at 13 and was like, "Oh, art can be *everything* to a maker, for good and bad"

I really need to get to bed, but I just poked my head out the back door again. This is the view from my deck. All of this is looking south. When the geomagnetic storms are like this, the oval overshoots me and stretches into the US, which is why so many are seeing it tonight. #aurora

How a flawed idea is teaching millions of kids to be poor readers
For decades, schools have taught children the strategies of struggling readers, using a theory about reading that cognitive scientists have repeatedly debunked. And many teachers and parents don't kno...

Her parents help her with childcare, a very normal thing that grandparents do. Do you know which parent usually stops working if you can’t afford child care and need one to stay home? Mothers. This one simple trick works great at keeping moms out of positions of power and they’re mad it didn’t work
The hypocrisy of far right media crying about anyone calling them out at while posting crap like this

I would like to see more millennials in office, and less headlines whining about us

I get why Minecraft does their bug reports the way they do, but as a result they have set up a major computer skill barrier to participating in the bug reporting process.

The average player can recognize when their game is broken, that doesn't mean they can navigate a database.

we should not be letting any company get away with blaming AI for their failures. I'm not even sure how we got to this point. people are like "it's just a tool" okay so is a forklift and we still hold somebody responsible when it goes wrong and hurts someone. this is YOUR AI!

Y'all, we have finally solved the reason why I'm bad at aiming in video games

It turns out that while my 9000 dpi mouse sensitivity is great for not having to move my wrist a lot, it's unusually high by like a factor of 5 compared to the average gamer.

Read every word & share with everyone you know. This is real life here in Chicago. Americans need to know this grotesque reality & stand with us.
Kyle Kingsbury is not a journalist. He is not an op-ed writer.

He is a computer safety researcher.

And he has written one of the most compelling, comprehensive accounts of the ongoing hell in Chicago that you could possibly imagine.

In under 1600 words.

The average SNAP benefit per month is $177 a person.

The average ACA benefit per month is up to $550 a person.

People want us to hold the line for a reason. This is not a matter of appealing to a base. It’s about people’s lives.

And working people want leaders whose word means something to them.

this. I have spent years researching a place to go, but there's nowhere that both has a healthcare system that can meet my needs and will let me immigrate with my health issues. There's a couple places with exceptions if I were independently wealthy, but if I were, I could just afford my healthcare!
Please understand that Americans who have a serious chronic illness essentially have no where to run to.

(The immigration rules of countries with the kind of health care system it takes to keep me alive deny me admission because I'm seriously chronically ill, and, therefore, a 'drain on resources')
I am not done fighting.

I do need to get a good night's sleep. But please know that I am not done fighting for healthcare. I understand that many of you — many of US — die without medical care.

i think this is key. taking the deal would amount to taking the blame. it would turn a clear political victory into an unambiguous defeat.
If the Dems blink after all of this, for a deal that all but ensures no ACA subsidies in 2026 anyway, then what was the purpose of letting the shutdown go for 40 days in the first place?
