friendly reminder to not post anything that will get feds knocking on your door and putting you on no-fly lists, no matter how upset you are about injustices. it doesn't matter that you're not serious and it doesn't matter if you append "in Minecraft". be careful with what you say, here or anywhere

hey remember when a bunch of middle-aged drunk korean lawmakers climbed the locked gates to the national assembly to hold an emergency session after the president gave illegal orders to the military, all of which ended with said president being sentenced to prison

Just woke up even angrier. Impeach, convict, remove. Draft articles now. Either we have a representative government or we don’t. Do not shut up about this until there’s a vote.

Yeah, because I watched (largely) young men I went to school with for years and years die in a war we didn’t want against people who never should have been in our crosshairs, and the ones who made it came back PRETTY FUCKED UP. The fuck????
Watching millennials on here panicking that Gen Z will have their own Iraq / Afghanistan.

Whatever you might think of Maduro, the seizure and kidnapping of a head of state takes us to a very dark place. Vast, arbitrary, extra-legal power, which could be exercised almost anywhere, regardless of the character of the target government.

Me yelling, "Talk to a pharmacist," over and over as the automated system repeats, "okay, but actually I can help you with most requests. Simply state what you need..."
“Why are Americans mistrustful of AI?” asks the morning briefing thing I’m skimming while I “no” through literally a dozen questions being asked to me by a robot who stands between me and the person I need to talk to to schedule the x-ray that I really, really need

You’re going to be okay. Someone will hate your book. You’re going to be okay. Someone will not get what you’re trying to do with your art and judge you. You’re going to be okay. You’re going to keep creating, in 2026, because you need it and because the world needs you to. Okay?

Still getting comments on the comic dubs I've been doing going "WTF is the point of the subtitles? LMAO"

And I say again.

Accessibility!!!!!!!!!

Just because YOU don't need an accessibility feature doesn't mean someone else wouldn't benefit from them.

I wanted to get a video of this ghost crab but every time I got close to their hole they scuttled back in, so I tried getting clever with it. I made a little sandcastle and shoved my phone into it, hit record, and walked away. Crab was VERY suspicious of this addition to their environment.

There are a vast number of people in the U.S. who are otherwise reasonably intelligent but they profoundly believe to their very core that if you get sick, you must've done something to deserve it. This is why our health care system is so berserkly cruel.

I blame John Calvin.

Because when Jon Stewart mocks mask wearers, he gives permission to the "polite liberal consensus" to do the same. Maher is just a jerk making content for other jerks

there is a genre of person who hates AI in *their* field but sees how it could be useful in *other,* less prestigious, fields; ignore them. they are not trying to save the ship. they are just racing you to the lifeboats
Translators, illustrators, researchers and editors all do creative, human work that is important and cannot be reproduced in part or in whole by AI any more than writers. Their interests are our interests. To legitimize the use of AI to replace them is a failure of principle as much as strategy.

Just watched the new Knives Out and I think it's really important you know that the scene in the Seminary's Gym is filmed in the same place Rick Astley filmed the music video for Never Gonna Give You Up.

I saw the window tracery and immediately made my friends pause the film so I could tell them.

When I'm out in public I hear so many people complaining about how many nasty viruses are going around. Those same people are never masked & would probably call me crazy for still doing so.
The whole clip disappointed me including the part where Stewart said he asks people if they’re sick for why they’re masking.

It’s like, none of your business?!?! Weirdo behavior.
Dear Jon Stewart c/o @weeklyshowpodcast.bsky.social
I recently watched, with great surprise and disappointment, a weeklyshowpodcast segment in which you and other "personalities," gleefully mocked and derided the relatively small subset of individuals who continue to wear a face mask in public.

I am interested in working with an artist on a graphic novel on soil and/ or global environmental change. The lab would have money to fund this.

Do you know of any graphic artists that would be interested?

Using it at this point is complicity. I don’t know what else to say. You know what it is. You have definitely seen the posts and articles about the pollution from these data centers killing people. And that’s ignoring it killing all of us and stealing livelihoods.

I’m so tired of hearing why people “need” AI for this or that.

What about “this technology is killing the only habitable planet we have AND is fueled solely by stolen work for which the vast majority of authors and artists will never see compensation” is ambiguous?

will also add - yes, this is my personal crusade - that turning podcasts into videos implicitly asks women to once again make more effort than men, as the bar for "camera-ready" for one gender is obviously higher than for the other

Individualism is a social disease. People talking about "loneliness epidemics" and how no one trick-or-treats anymore, fewer community events, etc. People don't get that when you embrace individualism you don't get to benefit from being a part of society.

The west still owes Marie Kondo an apology for bastardizing her theory into minimalist nonsense. Especially bcs what she was teaching is something our parents should have, how to recognize what we want. The emotional intelligence in her work is phenomenal, legit similar to what I've done in therapy.

not some random popular person.

when anyone says they worked hard on AI output you gotta hear it in the same way as a boss who says they worked really hard on something by which they mean they just kept telling other people who know how to make the actual work to do it better and redo it because it's not what they meant to ask for
something I'm surprised gen AI discourse didn't hit yet is the attitude "I asked for it to be done, so I made it" has always been how rich people view using workers who have trained skills and do the technical side. they see themselves as creators for having an idea, we were just a means to that end

which in turn was protecting the rest of us from their bad ideas

brace to see an uptick everywhere of things getting made with AI that even a few years ago wouldn't have happened, because making some version of it real no longer involves talking about to even one person who knows what they're doing
