Of course, big thanks to @richardgarriott.bsky.social for the great games
I am so happy to start the year with something I’ve wanted for years: a whole bunch of Ultima maps framed on my wall! (for now: 3-9 and SotA… still looking for 1-2 and U:O!)
Now I’ll be able to dream a little bit about Britannia every time I walk into the bedroom.

I remember, some years ago, when this news first broke, I thought it would at least prevent him getting support for other bs projects. 😒
“Elon Musk admitted to his biographer that the reason the Hyperloop was announced—even though he had no intention of pursuing it—was to try to disrupt the California high-speed rail project to get in the way of that actually succeeding.” — @parismarx.com in @gizmodo.com

He’s always been this way.
Silicon Valley's Push Into Transportation Has Been a Miserable Failure
The titans of tech brought plenty of disruption to our broken transportation system but delivered little in the way of innovation.

Were 90s kids clamoring for a Batman cartoon with 1930s Art Deco aesthetics? Is that what the market demanded? Or did some really smart creative people have a vision and make a genre-defining hit that sustained 20 years of TV shows? If you want success look for vision, not just metrics.

We played a short campaign of it back in the day and it completely blew my mind and showed me what RPGs can be besides simulationist tables
Yesterday's Word Count = 894
Now this was a very interesting concept and certainly fit the books it was based on. Never got to find out what it might be like to play.

It’s a quiet New Year’s Eve for us, we are just going to chill while the kids are off with friends. So for a little entertainment to pass the time, let’s play my silly game again.
Roll a d1084 and I’ll see what random RPG book I pull from my shelf. #ttrpgs

I only played a handful of new-to-me TTRPGs this year but except for a couple of convention one-shots, we opted to play them long enough (>10 sessions) to get a good taste, which I really prefer. Plus, continuing a few years-long campaigns, which is also awesome! Here’s to long plays.

Just in time for the end of the year, I finished playing through this video game classic I had never played before. With help from the young kid, where “help” means yelling “WATCH OUT! CLICKERS! RELOAD! THROW A MOLOTOV!”

Jim Wampler announced this morning that we lost Tim Kask, who passed in his sleep on the 30th.

Tim was the creator of The Dragon, which set the foundation for what an industry-focused magazine should be. He was an icon and one of the few early founders of TSR still with us.

Communities clump into a big hex and the whole thing looks like a star map

What are blogs anyway but stars in the sky?
