Okay, so @paulbaldowski.bsky.social got me thinking this - I'd *LOVE* to see examples of other GM's prep for one-shot #TTRPGs - rough and ready, with or without explanation, with or without post-running analysis. Is anyone else interested in this?

The Broader “D&D” - character classes, levels, d20, zero to hero, dungeons, monsters is still IMHO a very valid framework for a TTRPG. DCC, T&T, Draw Steel, TBH, Pathfinder, Dragonbane etc etc etc.

The specific Hasbro D&D (c) - Tieflings and other proprietary IP - nope. It’s a corral.

Do you think of D&D?

This might seem like a loaded question but I'm genuinely curious. Dungeons & Dragons was how many got into the hobby. Some people love it & engage with it constantly, maybe even create for it. Others hate it for how it dominates the landscape.

Matt is, indeed, wise. I'd add that everyone should BOTH play and GM if they want to GM - the two sides of the screen cross-fertilize. And consider, how can I be an A1 fantastic player that everyone wants at the table.

Kobold Traits While each kobold wants to be described uniquely, all kobolds share the following traits: Ability Score Increase. Your Dexterity score increases by 2. Size. Kobolds are between and , and weigh around pounds. Your size is Small. Speed. Your base movement speed is 30 feet. Hit Points. Kobolds start with 6 Hit Points. Type. You are a humanoid. Crafty. You gain proficiency in either jeweler's kit, mason's tools, trapper's kit, or tinker's tools. Darkvision. Your eyesight, much like that of the legendary dragons your blood hails, grants you the ability to see in the dark. You can see in dim light within 60 feet of you as if it were bright light, and in darkness as if it were dim light. You can't discern color in darkness, only shades of gray. Draconic Sorcery. You gain one cantrip of your choice from the sorcerer's spell list. Constitution is your spellcasting ability for it. Naturally Stealthy. You can attempt to hide even when you are obscured only by a creature that is at least one size larger than you. Moss and Stone. You only need to eat half a pound of food a week, instead of a day. Heritage. Where there are dragons, there are kobolds, and often do these kobolds adapt to these environments. In caves, you will find the Geckofoot stuck to the walls, in lakes, you will see the Spadetail swimming, and in the desert, you shall find the Slitherskin combing the sand. Gnoll Traits All gnolls share the following traits: Ability Score Increase. Your Strength score increases by 1. Size. Gnolls are between and , and weigh around pounds. Your size is Medium. Speed. Your base movement speed is 30 feet. Hit Points. Gnolls start with 8 Hit Points. Type. You are a humanoid. Lope. You can drop on all fours to increase your base movement speed by 10 feet, you cannot hold anything in your hands while doing so, however. Getting back up from a lope costs 5 feet of movement. Darkvision. You are adapted to hunting at night. You can see in dim light within 60 feet of you as if it were bright light, and in darkness as if it were dim light. You can't discern color in darkness, only shades of gray. Keen Smell. You have advantage on Wisdom checks that rely on smell, and can follow scents. Carrion Eater. You have resistance against becoming diseased, and you suffer no ill effects from eating decaying meat. Heritage. The hyeanid gnolls often mirror their bestial counterparts. The Aardgnoll, small insectivores; Dire gnolls an immense artifact of a darker past; Brushland gnolls, efficient hunters and scavengers of the plains; and Winter gnolls, a lost branch of wanders strangely fit for their new home Geckofoot Kobold Your kind dwell, in the place most famous for dragons: caves. As such, you've adapted excellent skills for traversing in three dimensions away from any danger that may befall you. Ability Score Increase. Your Intelligence score increases by 1. Gecko Grip. You have a climb speed equal to your base walking speed. Additionally, while your hands and feet are uncovered, you can traverse smooth walls and ceilings and have advantage on ability checks and saving throws against being removed from a surface against your will. Lizard on the Wall. You have proficiency in the Stealth skill. Aardgnoll Aardgnolls owe their smaller stature to their considerably more reliable diets. Not prone to going out to kill dangerous beasts to hunt, your people instead raise giant termites, as companions, beasts of burden, and food. Ability Score Increase. Your Dexterity score increases by 2. Small Frame. Your kind go literally beneath the notice of other gnolls. Your size is Small. Termite Husbandry. You have proficiency in the Handle Animal skill. Harmless Guise. You have advantage on ability checks made to pass yourself off as harmless.
