It's political malpractice to keep saying "we all just need to come together" and "elect us because we're the adults and everything will be fine" when we are *so far* past the point of normal that people are going to be pissed once Dems get control and things get *worse*. Which they absolutely will.
A very "we all know why I'm fucking here" moment!
And please, PLEASE let us not forget that time in 2023 when Karen Smith was elected President of the school board in Bucks County, Pa and swore her oath on a stack of banned books. The most gangsta oath ever! Just brilliant. www.edweek.org/leadership/t...

Here's how combining such a message & reform agenda might work: if I say 'America's cities are the heartland of its greatness,' then I might also suggest they need a stronger voice in American govt if that greatness is to grow.

So: let's add delegate-senators to the US Senate who represent cities.

I'm entirely serious about this: until you internalize the view that urban America is Real America, you won't see the urgency of structural reform of an American government whose fundamental structures so disadvantage its population centers—the great engines of its prosperity, progress, & culture.
Another good practice for the New Year would be for all the non-fascists in America who want to opine about politics to really begin believing that urban America is Real America & that its denizens are The Authentic People. Get some self-respect & drop the volkish nationalist view that they're not
And I think liberals should stop taking the bait and ceding ground on immigration.

Immigration is good. Multiculturalism is good. Free trade is good. Stop being embarrassed to say so.

Once you look for, "does this [article / op-ed / claim by a politician] consider the 80% of Americans who live in urban areas to be real Americans?" you will see it everywhere, because the answer is usually "no."

Men doing this whole “I will vanquish continents for my children” LARP is so goofy in the context of household surveys. It’s nice you’ll kill millions for your daughter, maybe we can start at doing a load of laundry for your wife who does the vast majority of household labor?

ROFL
I give the NYT credit because none of the people they found appear to be active Republican officeholders or activists
Trump’s approval is under 40% so naturally the New York Times found a whole bunch of people that support or defend what he’s doing, including a Kamala 2024 voter who regrets his vote lmao

This whole thread is why advocates for "AI" just don't understand what they are UNCRITICALLY doing by oversuggesting it's a useful tool.

I swear, everyone who think they are the solution to everything turn every question into a nail for the "AI hammer."
I don't think you could come up with a list more designed to inflame sentiments than "here is a list of things that publishers MUST use AI to do and remain competitive, but don't worry, this isn't pushing out creative labor"
Erin Underwood: Open Letter to the Science Fiction Writers Association and Community on AI

Erin's core thesis is "There are responsible ways to use AI that support creators without replacing creative labor."

The fact that this person thinks letting AI read and summarize a contract is a good use of the tech is a great data point on how little they understand why and how it sucks.

So much of this popularism stuff misses a very basic point: your rational incentive is not to run up the score with the biggest margin possible. It's actually to win on the *fewest* votes possible. The smallest winning coalition is what gives each constituent part the biggest say once in power.

Symptomatic of the degradation of search. If search worked better there'd be no need for "AI" summaries, but the steady enshittification of the internet has had such a huge impact on search that the summaries seem like godsends.
I don't actively use AI but to the extent it's thrust upon me in searches and such, I find it does a decent job of summarizing something when sources with complete and accurate info are easy to find anyway. when things are less clear cut (i.e. when AI would theoretically be helpful), it's a mess.

Thread. This is a crucial thing for non-Christian Americans to understand. Most Christian Nationalists think it’s an act of kindness on their part to tell you that you will be going to hell if you don’t convert. It’s incomprehensible to most of them that they’re being bigots.
I'm going to tell my favorite story again about reflecting the certainty of beliefs back at people who don't expect it.

A friend was one of the few Jews on faculty at a North Dakota University. Every year, his colleague in religious studies would invite him to come to his religious studies class...

The American media IS "silly," at best. All the Canadians did was use the evidence provide to them to make it unquestionable.
The Atlantic suggesting, without evidence, that Canada's Global TV broadcasting the '60 Minutes' segment on CECOT that CBS distributed to it may have been an act of "treachery."

I'd go a bit further. The system needs no conspiracy to function. It just needs everyone to understand the direction things are going in. Bari Weiss was put there not to protect a legacy, but to align its politics differently.

For those of us warning about democracy's potential disintegration, the decision by CBS to pull an exhaustively researched 60 Minutes piece, critical of Trump, is another red alert moment.

When truth disappears as the media gets coopted by the regime, there's little left.
