You’ve probably heard someone talk passionately about a ”15-minute city” before. At its core, it's the idea that cities can be designed so that everything you need is no more than a 15-minute walk, bike ride or public transport trip away.

“There’s a public health imperative to quickly expand the adoption of autonomous vehicles.”

Would the author say the same about building bike lanes? Installing automatic traffic cameras? Requiring Intelligent Speed Assist?

All of those are proven to save lives — and at a fraction of AVs' cost.

Bicycles are for transporting 10-foot ladders.
Ironically it’s actually much easier to carry a full 10’ ladder on my bike due to its wider base, rather than this short one.

The reason we have laws* against bribery is that companies will absolutely bribe politicians at the very first opportunity if it is good for the bottom line, because they see it as a sound business decision, not a civilizational betrayal.

TIL that “casi algo” is the Mexican equivalent of our term “situationship.” Which…is somehow just emotionally worse. “We’re *almost* something.” Just brutal.

I'm a longtime fan of Not Just Bikes, but his 95(!) minute video on John Forester and Vehicular Cycling is truly his magnum opus.

If you are even remotely interested in the history of bicycling in America, it is worth a watch.

Zohran picked 「卓蘭」("excellent orchid") for his first name and「夸梅」("brilliant plum") for his middle name.

The orchid and the plum are among "The Four Noble Ones" in traditional Chinese art, the former symbolizing an indifference to fame and fortune, the latter an indomitable, incorruptible spirit.

One of the greatest deceptions of our time is the false narrative that we should somehow be more concerned about how a poor person uses the welfare system than we are about the ultra wealthy swaying the highest positions or power in our country to their favor.

The entire "free speech on campus" moral panic was manufactured to blackmail us into making space in intellectual life for bigots and charlatans who couldn't get there on their own merits. Its a DEI scheme for fascism. Congratulations to everyone who took it at face value.
