a few pictures from the second day of celebrations for the extension of the rem. cdpq infra built 50 km of rapid transit in less than 8 years and at a cost of 128 million dollars per km. and there’s more to come!

i took montreal’s pie-ix brt this afternoon, and the amount of time spent by buses at red lights is absurdly long.

did you know that the ttc sometimes operates a special bus line in toronto that crosses active runways at billy bishop airport? it only runs when the winter ferry to toronto islands is out of service. #takethettc

👇 check out this cool youtube video of the ride.

the frequency of montreal’s night bus network isn’t as good as toronto’s network, but its coverage and frequency is far superior to vancouver’s network.

At least in Montreal we run the weekend schedule on holidays, but for New Year we extend the service until 3:20am (at that point tbh why not keep it open all night, but it’s better than otherwise)
Kind of wild that London just stops running public transit on Christmas.

Not just a reduced holiday schedule but no trains or buses at all.

Just realized that the 50km end to end travel time of the Montreal REM is the same as the 10km end to end travel time of Toronto's Finch W Tramway (55 min).

I should record a video at a CTA (Chicago) station in an expressway and compare noise to this REM station that has platform screen doors

this one minute video sums up today's opening of toronto's newest light rail, line 6.

this is so, so infuriating.

~50 min to go 10 km; ~30 min to go 5km.

in this case, the cross street is a minor road, yet the train is still held up for a minute for left turns

congrats to toronto for opening their new $3.7-billion streetcar line!

This is an incredibly positive story re: housing density in Banff. Personally I don’t think we could ever build enough “gentle density” to make Banff affordable, but still a positive step youtu.be/CstPL88iEnw?...

Yesterday, Turin's tram line 3 finally returned to its original terminus at Hermada, after bidirectional rolling stock from other lines was redeployed on line 3

In case anyone needed a better visual to show why the bus lane is "empty" and the car lane is "filled".

It's pretty simple. Cars are realllyyyy bad at moving large amounts of people.

They're definitely great for specific uses! But to rely on them for every single trip is where we have failed.

le germain montréal 2020 → 2025

this is possibly my favourite mural in montreal. what used to be a very average building is now one of the most memorable ones in the area.

for funsies, here's a modern city logo i love! a quick search tells me the shapes are meant to look like the letters VM (ville de montréal). this says nothing about the city — it's just a jumping-off point for a unique, versatile, memorable icon representing "montréal" in the broadest sense

I am once again asking cities to install usable bike parking instead of whatever this is. Could you imagine if cities installed car parking spots that were based on art versus functionality?
