Our directors from Ontario and Quebec are travelling to Ottawa to meet with MPs, and both trains are running late due to freight problems.
VIA Rail needs investment and regulatory support to operate its existing service effectively, and ensure the long term future of these routes alongside Alto.

Today we mark the 40th anniversary of the Hinton disaster.
In the intervening years, measures to address crew fatigue have been implemented, but Canada still lacks fail-safe physical controls to prevent a train passing a stop signal.

Up to eight departures per day are cancelled next week because of ongoing reliability problems with the Siemens Venture trains. Spare equipment will be on standby to try to reduce unplanned cancellations.

Those transit agencies that have seen the fastest return of ridership and growth since 2023 are often those who have embraced more inclusive service design, and every agency should do this because it’s simply the right thing to do.
When cities are built with women in mind, they become more liveable for everyone.

A fairer planning approach that promotes a universal right to access the city, and considers every aspect of human life, from infancy to elderly; not just those in the so-called productive stage.

Today, Tuesday, February 3rd, is the 50th anniversary of the founding meeting of Transport 2000—now Transport Action Canada —around a kitchen table in Ottawa.
Today we also participated in a session with Alto to refine their plans for finally building high-speed rail in Canada.

Come out and gave your say on Alto HSR, but don't forget that we need to keep improving our existing VIA Rail services over the next decade as well, so that HSR is part of a network. One trunk cannot stand alone, it needs roots and branches.
