In this game, a character is...

...A person with needs and desires that'll inevitably bring them into conflict with others, because there ultimately isn't enough to go around, who's capable and prepared to fight for what they need.

I think they already know, Senator.
Democratic Senator Shaheen says ending the shutdown wasn't a failure because it achieves a later vote that will get Republicans on the record.

Y'all, the things I'm penning in my notes to improve on this ashcan are making me very nervous and very excited.
Have I talked about Family Meal yet? @napel.itch.io 's rpg about running the front and back half of a restaurant? Felt real good to go back to that sort of space and not have to deal with real drama but instead pretend drama with my friends.

this is obviously a quip and not a full analysis, but I do think that discussion of "liminal spaces" tend to put a sort of magical aura around the spaces themselves which elides the much more interesting aspects of the psychology triggered within those spaces. there's nothing magical about a hallway
you don't love "liminal spaces"

you love the relief of being allowed to forget

I was trying to decipher whether what I was feeling was that I wanted to go but was worried I shouldn't or that I don't really want to go (or rather I know it doesn't make sense this year) but am worried I should, and I think it's actually the latter, unfortunately!
I can't decide whether it makes sense for me to go to Breakout this year. I may or may not have something to playtest, I have nothing new to promote, and I feel like I'd be going purely for pleasure more than business which my latent Catholic genes are screaming against. But I want to see my friends

My latest is a love letter to Chicago. "I see you stumbling through the stubborn, awkward rhythm of showing up, again and again. I see you fighting alongside people who sometimes frustrate and confuse you, and defending neighbors you may have never met, because you know they’re all your people."
In Chicago, We Run Toward Danger Together

Begging small press indie RPG people to understand you're not in the games industry you're in the publishing industry. You *need* to understand how licensing works if you're going to be hiring artists.

Went ahead and put a bunch of my most popular work - including my Mothership class, my sci-fi gig economy solo RPG (and its Online-focused expansion!), and my cyberpunk microgame trilogy - on sale through the end of November!

I feel silly boosting this because encouraging people to back this kickstarter is roughly akin to encouraging people to continue breathing. This is not just an unabashedly good thing, it is a whole stack of huge, unabashedly good things. It is so evident that I just assume everyone *knows* this.

They are not good at summarising
AI summaries has got to be one of the biggest concerns about professional AI use:

1) people love summaries and will assume accuracy;

2) AI summaries often look authoritative (even citing sources);

3) if you take time to check the sources, they often don’t say what AI says in the summary

Half the point of Bluesky as a social media platform is having control over your algorithm(s), after all.
Wondering why no one likes your posts anymore, even among your friends? It's because @jay.bsky.team and team have decided to hide a huge amount of content from all of our feeds by default.

Here's how to turn it off.

It's great when the "we'll run your university like a business" types get administration positions because they always show you two things: they don't know how universities work and they are actually very bad at running businesses.
My former employer, the University of Nottingham, has axed its undergrad music and languages programs—but don't worry, there are still five separate degrees you can get in AI.

This is what happens when you corporatize education. What a joke.

I find it kind of beautiful that we're seeing the next iteration of Apocalypse World's DIY art. Two of the biggest names in indie roleplaying games show, once again, that it's not about spectacle or expense. It's about using the skills you have and the skills you can develop to make it how you can.
