Updating my pinned post.

Hi, I'm Kurtis. Late to game dev: started at 35. Barreling towards 50. Most of my career as server engineer on World of Warcraft, but done other things - last 21 months or so at Magic Soup Games working on [redacted].

Probably a 3d printing stan account for a while.

One thing I keep thinking about is that when I was growing up (all the way through when I graduated college) Northern Ireland was, essentially, in a low state of civil war.

America's (mostly) peaceful state was not a given, and conflict takes many form.

I feel like if I became a multi millionaire, instead of art heisted paintings or smuggled antiquities I would fill my house with little nooks dedicated to art and playable demos of cancelled games secreted out of their studios.

What morally fine but technically illegal thing would you fill yours?

<nodding> this is the best way to make art, has to end up in a vault somewhere where nobody can ever play it yet it holds tax-quantifiable value
I never realised the real goal of my career should have been an acquisition and subsequent closure by Embracer.

Writer here, but I can adapt to house style and existing character voices very easily, and I can find the heart of a scene or character quickly and find ways to expand on those themes. I also write very poetic and euphonic prose.
Artists, I think we're all too comfortable sharing our imposter syndrome.

I would love to see you step out of your comfort zone and confidently state what you think you're actually really good at.

No self deprecation, just what you think you're the strongest at

Is anyone brave eniough? 👀

In the early 90s a church youth choir I was in went on tour in Colorado, and one stop was the Air Force Academy. Part of the visit was a tour of the Cadet Chapel. It was completed in 1962, and the room acoustics are full of super long reverberations.

We sang a song a cappella, and it was magic. /1
I've been commissioned to write a piece about games based on real places that changed peoples' perception of that place or had some kind of local impact - are you a dev who made a game like this? Or are you a player who has a story about a game that inspired you to visit somewhere? Let me know!

It's actually insane to fully admit "we burn out our senior devs so we can hire less experienced workers desperate to prove themselves in a cutthroat and unpredictable industry so we can take advantage of their passion and push crunch on them since they're cheaper and less likely to complain"

This is a new one for me, where one side winning twice is described as a "win-win".
Sen. Kevin Cramer: "Maybe the point should be if you're the attorney for Jay Powell and you want to avoid an indictment, how about you go to Jeanine Pirro and say, 'I'll make a deal. I'll step down today if you drop the investigation today.' To me, that would be a win win for everybody."

In case you were curious (I doubt you were)...

This message is intended for the (around) 1000 people in the US with $1b+ net worth. It is THE call to action: you must step in - you must stop this with your power/influence.

It's the financial system fire alarm.

I love how pet names explain owners. You’ll see a massive white husky with a nickname like FluffyBoi and you’ll meet a little Chihuahua whose owner introduces him as “Call him Ishmael.”
we’re in the vet’s office waiting room and they just called for Agamemnon. we all looked at the Great Dane but it turns out Agamemnon is an orange kitten in a backpack that makes him look like an astronaut cheese puff

No one *licensed* anyone to make CSAM of their kids, and the tech company that provides both the production technology and the distribution system should be prosecuted out of existence.
Co-signing this. Grok is out there making CSAM on request from pictures posted to the internet.

And if you posted pictures of your kids to Twitter, you LICENSED Grok to do that. Take those pics down NOW
Parents, if you didn't have a problem until now of not posting pics of your kids on public social media, now might be a good time to start (and maybe scrub what's there already).

The Paranoia RPG, except it’s game dev, the computer is the Executive Producer and you play as rank-and-file producers hunting down people not updating their Jiras.
