Game designer, mostly. Knows how to make a custom editor in Unreal, write jokes in a foreign language, track police movements across a large city, and publicly scold an abusive party leader.

"my least woke opinion is---"

That's enough. We've had enough people indulging in the "thrill of a little conservatism", as a treat. Of considering reactionary thought to be a salacious and taboo in a world descending into reactionary mania.

Give me your MOST woke opinions. We're bringing it back.

Welcome to Hel
(with one 'l' - it's a touristy small town at the tip of a spit on the southern coast of the Baltic Sea)
I made a joke in my main Discord server about DOOM E1M1 being in a major key and @abigbagofkeys.sickonedude.com actually made it. Jesus fucking Christ listen to this hahahaha

The flat I live in has a gas oven, which means its burners make hissing noises. I've just realized I can tell the water in a pot is boiling without going into the kitchen, because the hiss slightly changes its pitch. It feels as if I've just discovered a (relatively useless) superpower.

Some people are reacting to Valve's announcement like it's The Next Big Thing, and don't get me wrong, pretty much everything Valve does is interesting and deserves attention, especially when their products are part of your job, but this is funny, because Valve's never been that kind of a company.

I'm not at liberty to disclose details, but let me just state in the vaguest way possible that AI translations are the worst, and the sooner people get over them the better.

Poland is like the US in that any prominent left-wing politician who speaks up on policy in public triggers the kind of rabid response the Democrats had to Mamdani, but Poland is also unlike the US in that if the local Mamdani won, there wouldn't be prominent media figures openly cheering.

You only know your home is smart when your computer fan harmonizes with the microwave oven, the car alarm outside does the rhythm section, the elevator joins in on base and the kettle does the "vocals".

That's how you know it's still your home The tech bros would never think of this.

YT pushed to me a compilation of people cutting life-like animal-shaped cakes in front of their pets, who then freak out. I don't care if it's AI generated or real footage. Either way it's exactly the kind of cruelty I never want to see on YT.

Instead, people have to koalang around text filters.

Based on my experience, the hypothesis being presented here feels very plausible.

The best way to combat this kind of abuse is to share more.
I'm not sharing right now because I'm a bit of a special case (a freelancer working remotely from abroad) and it would take a lot of explaining.
Something worth noting: Rockstar is leaning HEAVILY on the excuse that the unionising employees were "leaking private company information"

They want people to assume this means game info or assets.

But I will bet you CASH MONEY this translates to:

'they were comparing salaries and work contracts"
"Rockstar, Rockstar, you're disgusting, we charge you with union busting," the protesters declared.

As an Eastern European, I implore you not to waste food. Only stock up on your ICE-busting sandwiches from places that are getting rid of excess items they were unable to sell in time. I assure you there's plenty of that going on. Talk to the staff, ask if you can have their trash.

There are a number of strategies to (partially) automate video game QA, but genAI has virtually no chance of becoming one of them.

The US is a dumpster fire and I'm happy to not be anywhere near it, but the one thing 'm jealous about is the Mamdani campaign, because at least from a distance it looks like leftists can get their shit together after all.

Over the 20 years of my game development career, I've not only gained substantial experience in game design, but also made sure I know about testing, programming, writing, team leadership, publishing, localisation, and even a bit of HR.

None of that matters to anyone in gamedev who has money.

Testing the feature I'm currently working on requires me to have as many bad random rolls as possible, which is perhaps why I keep getting a higher than expected number of good ones.

Some data that's relevant to my earlier entry.
Whisky is now Poland’s fastest-growing alcohol export, with overseas sales rising fivefold since 2021.

Meanwhile, the share of vodka among exported spirits has fallen from 80% two decades ago to 38% now.

I don't care much about ethnic stereotypes, because everybody knows they're kind of dumb, but if there's one thing you might want to update about your own stereotype of Poland, it's vodka. It's just not that popular anymore. Poland is very much a beer country now.

This is the most ruthless act of union busting in the history of the UK games industry. Yesterday, @rockstargames.com unfairly fired over 30 employees for union activity.

We won't back down, and we're not scared - we will fight for every member to be reinstated.
BREAKING: Yesterday Grand Theft Auto VI maker Rockstar Games fired dozens of people, all of whom were involved in union efforts. A British union calls it "blatant and ruthless" union-busting. Take-Two Interactive says it was due to misconduct.

Here's the scoop: www.bloomberg.com/news/article...

okay, update: i have had this question answered, and I am now looking to speak to game QA testers ON the record about the weirdest, silliest-sounding things they've had to do to make sure games work. the wackier the better. happy to keep folks anon if they prefer. DMs open, email/Signal in bio
would anyone who works in or adjacent to game testing/QA be willing to answer a couple questions for me? off the record, not to be quoted - just need some background info on automations to know whether a scenario someone described in a talk is common or unusual.

Remember kids: they're going to tell you that you're poor because you don't work enough and you spend too much, and then they're going to complain that you're too career-focused to start a family, and that you've killed entire industries because you didn't give them your money.
October 31, 2025 at 2:54 PM
Not criticising, just making a side note: the industry is full of projects that didn't reach their full potential on their first iteration, usually because of money, risk mitigation, and/or missing experience. Most of them never get the chance to grow.
Like this game is genuinely everything I wanted the first to be. It's 100% built on all the potential that was there and everyone who worked on this should be so proud of their work here. It's filled to the brim with details and little sub-stories and cool things to learn and find.

It's such a weird, sad feeling to look at the city plan that outlines future expansions - of the metro, in this case - and realise that at the current rate the third line will be ready in 2044 and the fourth one in 2062, which means I probably won't live long enough to see it.
