Re-doing my intro post! I'm Elizabeth. I'm a Melbourne based writer who does everything from narrative to dialogue to localisation. I also put pictures of my butt on the internet, and I'm a singer in my free time (mostly jazz.) I have no shame. I also collect 50's/60's Las Vegas stuff. Minors DNI.
I'm trying to decide what I want the first song my son ever hears to be, and originally I was like 'oh probably a nice frank sintra song, or maybe rainbow connection, or maybe baby mine from dumbo,' but honestly? Islands in the Stream by Sabrina Carpenter and the Muppets is kinda a front runner???

Everyone: bet you're excited for that first glass of wine after baby arrives!

Me: uh huh [googling "can you inject retinol like heroin?"]

My biggest gripe with the Fallout tv show is where the FUCK did all the kids in the Vault go? There's an entire classroom full of them in the first episode - Lucy was a teacher - and then we NEVER EVER SEE ANY OF THEM EVER AGAIN. Where are they??????

What airline do you think has the best economy food?

Air China is still a winner for me. By a mile.

I have hypermobility in my kneecaps that used to be downright debilitating when I was a teenager. I worked really, really hard at strengthening the surrounding muscles for better support and was pain free there for years. Pregnancy has undone all my hard work and now im in so much pain.

This is literally the best article on this topic I've ever read. It is something that many game devs can tell you straight to your face, and something SO many people simply don't believe.
Today's Load-bearing Tomato addresses the age old question:

"why don't the devs just [SOCIAL MEDIA OPINION]"

It turns out, "a lot of reasons", but if you never have to test your ideas, you never have to discover why they're not any good.

Honestly the angrier people get about Wuthering Heights, the more I wanna see it. (The only valid criticism ive read is about the white washing but honestly I don't think this is a movie you want talking about race anyway from the sounds of it)

"wages have been flat for decades" is an extremely simple, obviously true concept that explains about 80% of all handwringing op-eds and for some reason they just won't say that
"zoomers are killing the bar industry" oh interesting was it zoomers who decided a drink should cost seventeen dollars

This is the template for the response to fascism by the way. Getting in trouble to punch fascists is, as this hero would say, "Okay."

Okay, update: they're fine, Laneway is just chaos and there's lots of confusion over exits etc, which has been par for the course for the tour. Crowd crush incident happened earlier in the day during Pink Pantheress due to poor stage planning on Laneway's part.
Do I know anyone who has anyone at the ground on laneway? I've got a work colleague with kids there and they're terrified, apparently no one can get out and there's panic and risk of crowd crush happening. (I can't confirm though.)

Trying to explain to my husband that Kim Kardashian's appearance and participation in things like SNL isn't actually ever about HER, it's about the reactions of the people and environment TO her presence.

I think a lot of people are missing the point that if Gavin Newsom is the best option you're being presented with, you've already lost.

I wish socially awkward men would understand that if they just dressed a little more like Mr House they could very easily turn their World of Tanks hours into incredible rizz.

Without getting into a conversation about gender (I've got 'girl' stuff down & I'm just trying to prepare for if my son grows up embracing 'boy' stuff by his own choice) I've made a mental list of 'dude' stuff I can't wait for my son to experience for the first time and MGS is VERY HIGH UP there.

I'm glad that Metal Gear Solid 4 is going to be made available to more people, though I'm guessing the install experience won't be available. At least we have Metal Gear Scanlon to remind us of what that was like in its "fixed" form.

Yeah it is genuinely fucking scaring me the degree to which all our cultural output about nuclear war lately seems to present it as a Struggle That Humanity Will Emerge From Stronger. We honestly cannot allow that message to propagate in our fictions, because it *will* doom us. Nuclear War is not…
Threads director Mick Jackson has expressed worry over the upcoming remake’s focus on finding “hope even in the most challenging of times.”

“That one phrase worried me,” he tells Empire. “Hope is not part of nuclear war.”

Nah this fucking rules tho. Like he's not even in the world yet and I feel like I know this little dude I'm building?? I get why some women are really into having pregnancy after pregnancy tbh. If I had the money to support two kids I'd probably keep going for a second.
Playing some Rat Pack for my unborn son and I SWEAR he's kicking along in there. (That or he is objectively terrified of Dean Martin and/or Italians.)

In a world where everything is fucking awful, the Muppets are really one of the few consistant remaining rays of light that manages to break through all the muck.
