This is major.
Today 15 brave smallholder Kenyan farmers who appealed a Seed Act which criminalised them for saving, sharing&selling their own seeds won their case in the High Court.
Glad that my PhD findings were submitted in this case and assisted in the win. Here's a video of it!

We (the “developed” nations) need to either choose bikes, transit, and infill development — or cataclysmic change to habitability on the planet.

Change our lifestyle, or it will be changed for us.

Those are the only two choices.
Going after the last 5% of electricity supply CO2 reduction without reducing transportation emissions is lunacy.
I worry about mining for EV batteries, too.
But we can have a better quality of life if we substitute private cars for bikes, transit, infill development
Good figure from a recent ESIG report showing how marginal abatement costs in the electric sector start out low but increase sharply as you approach zero emissions.

I live in (what I think I'm correct in saying is) the most diverse constituency in the whole country - Dublin Central, D1 - *and* I'm old enough to remember what this place was like before significant immigration, and the idea that immigration hasn't been good for this country is fucking laughable

The Irish State is dumping €450 million of wind energy a year, despite 29% of households suffering fuel poverty, because 'there's no market'.

If you're struggling to get your head around that, it's called capitalism.

Nice to I’m not the only one doing this at the very last minute
The hardest and most annoying part of doing your taxes is peering at faded receipts trying to find *where they put the goddamn date* on this one

It would be one thing having a "debate" on immigration if people meant they wanted a "debate" based on facts. But what most people seem to mean when they say they want a debate is that is they want us to pretend a bunch of entirely made up bullshit is true.

For the first time in EU history, someone faces criminal charges for organising a Pride march.
Géza Buzás-Hábel, a teacher and organiser of Pécs Pride in Hungary, could be jailed for up to a year, simply for leading a peaceful march for equality. 🧵

I spoke this week at Cork City Council about immigration. No form of violence is ever acceptable. Ireland is, and must remain a country of peace, unity, and welcomes. When we stand together, we are stronger.

Anyway, as possibly the Irishman who is least interested in sports in recorded history, Saipan is my favourite football film ever because there's very little football in it, and because it has a Nancy Sinatra joke in it. And Eanna Hardwicke is going to be a super-massive movie star, no argument.

What Rosalind Franklin truly contributed to the discovery of DNA’s structure
Franklin was no victim in how the DNA double helix was solved. An overlooked letter and an unpublished news article, both written in 1953, reveal that she was an equal player.
