It's funny how hard we have to work to convince the world that uncontrolle data centre expansion is a climate risk when there's a fossil gas power station called the EXXONMOBIL POWER PLANT being built explicitly to power a data centre
Not enough people know about Homer City. The single largest fossil fuel plant that's being built *explicitly* to power a data centre.
This isn't a future projection, or some hollow marketing. This is physical stuff happening right now.

Has the cesspit of climate deniers and fascist migrated to LinkedIn from Musktopia, or have they always been there?
Never imagined I’d see a concentration that high of straight out deniers with VERY FANCY titles in field of comments.

When you switch from fossil to clean you only use like 30-40% of the energy to do the same stuff, bc most energy from fossil fuels is lost as waste heat

From my file on the IEA's world energy outlook.
"Primary energy" = what goes in
"Final energy" = what comes out

The space in between: mostly lost energy bc burning fossil fuels is absurdly wasteful.
So in the net zero scenario, that gaps closes to zero --->>

Playing down the risks - often to the limit of rediculing it - of climate change, loss of biodiversity, total nuclear war etc. must feel so liberating; if you’re right, you shine in the glory, but if you’re wrong - nobody will care (because it’s all a mess)
Is there a word for this risk asymmetry?

How can any country keep sending and selling weapons to Russia, or Israel for that matter?? Why are we not 100% boycotting these countries and companies?
They are almost exclusively used against civilians. Way, way beyond any defensive use. ALL THE TIME.

I reckon the most interesting subset of discourse here is when presumed [good] factors are actually either actually bad, or there to downplay or dismiss the bad even if the amount of good is way smaller than the bad.

I would love it if public discourse on data centers could be just a skosh more sophisticated than "data centers good vs. data centers bad."

Today feels like a good day to remind everyone that there is literally no empirical evidence that economic growth will just continue if the world heats up to, say, 3°C by 2100.
Continued growth is just *assumed* in every economic model of the relationship between temperatures and growth.
