It’s a way of them controlling what is and isn’t crime .

Imagine an Optimus powered by Grok that tells you killing the homeless isn’t a crime .

Or an Optimus with tiered membership where the person with the most expensive subscription is automatically granted preference
in a long life filled with saying stupid shit this is may be the stupidest shit he's ever said

There's been a lot of pearl-clutching about public grocery stores!

Which is wild, because we have a LOT of experience with public grocery stores in the US. And the folks it serves (US military & military families) stand by it.

I get that service hours and service dollars are scarce, fair point. But surely we'd support King County Metro charging a special, higher fare for a ski bus to Snoqualmie Pass. They could use the revenue to support other service elsewhere. Seems like a pretty smart and sensible thing to do... 3/

When CA launched Prop 50, it was polling at 38%. And so, we did it anyway. Winning campaigns requires that your GOALS define your actions, recognizing opinion - including who agrees to vote - is malleable. In other words, be a thermostat, not a thermometer.

King County doesn’t have the legal authority to tax businesses, so Super PACs don’t spend millions purchasing seats the way they do in Seattle elections (cf Saka, Rivera, Harrell).

my personal opinion is that the only way past this era is extreme grudge holding and pettiness.

all the people pushing AI? make them eat their words. be petty. hold their noses to their ideas and make them see how much they stink.

all the people in political power right now? absolutely same.

Seattle mayor Bruce Harrell was putting out at least a press release daily celebrating all the amazing things the mayor's office was doing right up until, let's see, November 3.

Nothing since then, though. Weird!

I think tonight shows why “moderate to win elections” is a real risk

the big divide in the Dem caucus, as many have noted, has been less moderate vs progressive than fight versus don’t fight

but it’s not a coincidence that basically everyone in the “don’t fight” camp is a moderate

sunday AM ☕️ and urbanism thread

the embodied carbon and cost savings with EU regs on single stair buildings are massive over double loaded corridors.
i've been thinking a lot about the cost saving potential of larger homes in swiss-style point access blocks v. US double loaded corridors

there are obvious ones - less floor area needed as more compact ($$ and CO2 savings), far less wall area (ditto), less paint (ditto), fewer doors (ditto)
trying to do some more analysis on this for a presentation i'll be doing later this month.

green is net interior floor area, with wall length overlaid on it. blue rectangles are linear feet of window

the amount of glazing in the Swiss (CH) point access block is >2X the US double loaded corridor

People need to understand that Chicago is a preview, not a culmination.
I have been actively watching contracts and surge funding over the last few days and what I would say to my friends in Baltimore is “be absolutely ready, right now.”
ICE poised to ramp up raids in Baltimore by Thanksgiving
The Trump administration has rush-ordered infrastructure to conduct raids, abduct residents, and detain people for months.

And don’t forget the role restaurant owners play in trying to suppress the minimum wage
If you didn’t know, Seattle restaurant owners and consultants have been fighting against street food and food truck reforms for decades.

Our regulatory environment is why until now, Seattle has not really developed a street food culture like Portland (or many other cities).
With unpermitted food vendors proliferating in King County, Washington restaurateurs are calling on the county and state to get more aggressive to deter them.

I feel like people on Bluesky who have convinced themselves that the institutional Left in the United States is pro Trump and falling over backwards to credit Trump should have to reckon with the fact that the only Palestinian in Congress, and a DSA member, says (rightly) that the ceasefire is fake.
