I know it’s too much to expect them to know their history, but if the American Revolution had a motto, it definitely would not have been “immigrants go home.”

It would have been “get your fucking soldiers out of our cities.”
America... boy, I dunno.

Mass media continues to operate as though “White conservatives” are the only group that count as “real Americans”
Here's a gift link to the New York Times' coverage of the initial Tea Party rallies in April 2009 which inspired the media to treat it like a massive movement.

Check out how tiny the crowds were:

Philly: 200
DC: "several hundred"
Boston: 500
Austin: 1,000
Houston: 2,000

Consider a programmer looking at code they themselves wrote a year ago, now having to identify and fix a bug. They have to rebuild the mental model of what is going on, which is easier if they have already had a mental model of what is going on.

💥 did a small drawing explaining the JS execution model including the event loop. I hope it’s helpful to folks. Debugging is always easier when the underlying implementations are understood.

show this to anyone else you know who also assumed DHH was just a normal conservative dude rather than a raging white supremacist lunatic

DHH's politics are not normal. Maybe they used to be, I don't know, but as of right now the dude is_way outside of what most people would consider moral or acceptable.

The GOP controls the White House and both houses of Congress. They are a fundamentally unserious party concerned with worshipping Trump, being on TV, and getting social media clicks for pushing culture war nonsense. They failed, and it's not the job of Dems to bail them out. Shut it down.

While we absolutely need to be paying attention to all of the incredibly awful and concerning shit that’s going on, I think it’s important to note that good things are, in fact, happening all around us as well. News of it just doesn’t travel quite as far.

When Covid popped up, the parties' reactions were extremely on brand.

Dems, America's A students, scrambled to do the responsible thing. Strained, *sweated* to do the responsible thing, to be *seen* doing the responsible thing, to get the gold star from the (imaginary) teacher.

Think about it. "Dems were too zealous in trying to prevent the spread of the virus" is, in US politics, a greater disadvantage, a bigger problem, than "Republican lies got hundreds of thousands of Americans killed for no reason."

Just a pathetic fucking country. Pathetic.
