She/Her
Please tell me why
My car is on the front lawn,
And I’m
Sleeping with my clothes on
I came in through the window last night
And you’re gone
Gonnnne
Lord knows I can't change
Lord, help me, I can't change
Lord, I can't change
Won't you fly high, free bird, yeah

In Illinois, 29 trans teens have died by suicide this year, per Trans Up Front, a trans youth advocacy group. Last year we lost four; six in 2023.

“This administration is targeting our children, they’re trying to take the next generation… [But] we’re gonna be here forever. We’ve always been here.”
On Trans Day of Remembrance, community reflects on those lost: 'We're gonna be here forever'
But even in Illinois — where many trans people have fled as persecution against them ramps up in other states — 29 trans teens have died by suicide this year, according to a count by Trans Up Front Il...

Several Chicago newsrooms have been quietly collaborating to bring big ICE stories to the forefront.

In this story today, we found that feds used chemical weapons on Chicagoans at least 49 times during immigration raids — even after a judge said to stop.
Feds Used Chemical Weapons On Chicagoans At Least 49 Times — Even After Judge Said To Stop
Contrary to federal claims about attacks on agents, most of these incidents appear to involve nonviolent protesters or bystanders.

I’m very proud of this collaboration—it’s yet another way Chicagoans came together and organized to defend our city.
Several Chicago newsrooms spent two months collecting and analyzing evidence of ICE & Border Patrol's use of tear gas and pepper spray in Chicago.

They found that agents deployed chemical agents nearly 50 times. Most uses occurred after a judge ordered federal agents to restrict their use.

i try not to get too upset about the way the attention economy moves because i know i do it too but the federal goons never left. they went from 10 raids a day to 1-2 because they don’t have the capacity to do this shock and awe campaign nationwide. but they’re still here
People have largely tried to act like ICE/CBP failed and retreated from LA and that is completely untrue. If it weren’t for the relentless coverage of places like @lataco.bsky.social these stories would be completely under the radar.
ICE has been raiding my neighborhood and surrounding ones for the last couple of weeks now. They commandeered my local church (against the pastor's will) for a staging site and raided supermarkets, parks, Goodwills, bus stops, you name it.

The national media's been silent. So has @mayor.lacity.gov.

Kidnappings have slowed with CBP’s ramp-down, but rapid response, patrols, whistles, etc. all formed even before Border Patrol arrived.

Expect we’re going to see a return to quick abductions of people they’ve targeted and probably some opportunistically, when people are out during mild weather.
Greg Bovino may have moved on to Charlotte, but federal immigration agents maintain a presence in the Chicago area.

Northwest Side Rapid Response has confirmed agents detained at least one person around 9:45 this morning off Kedzie and Wabansia.

All the sudden he said: “Well, I think a big part of the problem is that so many of the people who would’ve been our progressive leaders died of AIDS & can’t help us now.”

And I’ve thought about that every day since.
