We just filed another mistaken identity case
A SWAT team showed up to arrest someone as a nearby school let out students for lunch. They held a random kid at gun point because he had the same skin color as the suspect, & still perp walked him after realizing their mistake

just from a logistical standpoint, keeping 2K+ officers deployed in practically arctic conditions on the ground where the locals fucking hate you is a massive logistical task, hotels, car rentals, parkas, equipment are all a nightmare, and i am skeptical DHS has the admin capacity to maintain it
it very well might be cope, but i sort of suspect that this is the first step of a retreat

I know people keep saying this but it’s hard to communicate the depth of active resistance here. Like, I’m on random cafes and people are checking in for observation shifts. Signs everywhere. Folks in visibility vests on the corners. It’s wild. Absolutely wild.

Alas, here in Iowa, we had those protections ... and the legislature stripped them (along with equal rights to housing, banking, public accommodations and more).

Minnesota was the first state to protect workers from being fired for gender identity/expression and the only state to vote against Reagan in 1984 (I do not care that Mondale was from MN). Minnesota has been on the forefront of fighting fascism for generations.

I say this as someone whose college major was constitutional law.
Our systems, including the constitution, are predicated on good faith between branches of our government and the members in them.

I've never seen a population more united. If people can hold onto that unity, if people can accept that different people will have different ways of confronting fascism, if we can remind NGOs and orgs that they can join but not control the resistance, then, well, people here will write history.

I've been here 24 hours, but already with what I've seen, well, I genuinely believe we're going to win. People here are well aware that what happens here impacts the entire country, that it sets the tone for resistance. ICE is angry, ICE is terrified, of how deeply unpopular it is.

Today I talked with a 76 year old who'd been standing in the cold for hours guarding her neighbors. I was getting kind of chilly, even in the new winter gear i bought for this trip (and I live in the goddam mountains myself).
