I was interviewed by @telerama.bsky.social about the federal occupation of Minnesota. It's paywalled and I'm French, but a nice view from the ground wrote up.

“J’ai du temps et un téléphone” : face à la police migratoire ICE, des Américains sortent les caméras
En filmant les actions musclées de cette police controversée, impliquée dans les morts de Renee Good et Alex Pretti à Minneapolis, les “observateurs de l’ICE” veulent gagner la bataille des images.

The majority of organizing happening in Minnesota isn’t just peaceful, it’s INVISIBLE. Moms showing up who won’t be interviewed on TV, people whose ICE patrols don’t turn into viral video. The grocery runs, the donations, the people filming bc they happen to be there. Please remember this.

Friends outside the state asked me how things were in MN. I just replied with "Billy Bragg and Bruce Springsteen are writing songs about it."

ICE kidnapped 3 people in my neighborhood last night and an agent told an observer "Raise your voice, I'll erase your voice." Nothing is cooled down here.
EISEN: Don't you think Democrats are tapping into something in the mood of the country when it comes to the funding of ICE?

BESSENT: President Trump has brought down the temperature on the situation. He is urging them not to shut down the government.

As a reporter, I carried the home phone number of Maryland's chief district judge in my wallet. The Hon. Dennis Sweeney would, on an ask, explain to recalcitrant desk sergeants and shift lieutenants that he would hold them in contempt if they denied the public the face sheet of any shooting report.
I heard someone say it was “extreme” to demand the names of the ICE agents who murdered Alex Pretti.

No. Demanding government disclosure of the names of government agents when they kill Americans is moderate.

Wanting to read the names off the plaque at a mass grave would be, perhaps, extreme.

This is the opening ask?

@chrismurphyct.bsky.social, @schumer.senate.gov, none of these provisions would have prevented the deaths in Minnesota.

Abolishing ICE should be non-negotiable, full stop.
Dems coalescing around 5 restrictions on ICE, I'm told:

DHS required to cooperate with state probes (big)
CBP stays at border
warrants for arrests
IDs, bodycams
ICE out of churches, schools

"That package unites a lot of Dems," Sen Chris Murphy tells me on the pod:

A Dem Senator’s Harsh Takedown of Trump Hits Home: “Breaking Point”
As Trump scrambles to contain the damage from the latest ICE horrors, Senator Chris Murphy offers a sharp indictment of Trump-ICE lawlessness—and explains how Dems can meet the urgency of the moment.

Abolish ICE says the most popular Dem in the party. The most popular politician of the moment. The guy who got 50% of the insane melting pot known as NYC to vote for him. Maybe he's got the right instincts? Who can say
ICE murdered Renée Good in broad daylight. Less than 3 weeks later, they killed Alex Pretti, shooting him 10 times. Every day, we watch as people are ripped from their cars, their homes, their lives.

We can't allow ourselves to look away from this cruelty. Abolish ICE.

I'm 6'2" and a Marine vet. As a Legal Observer in MN it affords me some presence and protections from DHS. What continually impresses me is how many of my neighbors are fearless in this. Women, seniors, white collar folks. And they are kicking ass at it. Some of the bravest people I've ever met.

The Atlantic Magazine just dropped a tremendous story on the Minnesota Resistance. The author is a war correspondent & sees the echoes of leaderless community empowerment around the globe: www.theatlantic.com/politics/202... (supposed to be a gift link, might not work, it’s in Apple News, too.)

I've been posting daily journals as a legal observer in Minnesota and my last 2 videos have zero videos and others can't watch them.
TikTok has been under new leadership for like a day and I made a slideshow with posts from the ICE rally today and it immediately got out under review and is not being published. Incredible.

We Minnesotans know real courage. It takes a ton of it to stand for our neighbors against such violence. Yes there is great danger, but we know the price to pay if we back down will be far too great. I won't ever comply, fuck you make me.
This is why they're here. I've had this discussion many times with neighbors.

They're here because they're cowards who'd run and hide if they encountered someone stronger, with more guns, who could kill them.

They expected us to do that, and don't understand why we don't.

And now they're stuck.
I do think that a possibly underrated dynamic in The Horrors is that the Right as it has reconstituted itself under Trump legitimately can’t understand sincere moral or physical courage

Immigration is a fake problem. We have politicians on the one hand who want to use immigrants as scapegoats for our real ones and politicians on the other who are too cowardly to stand against them and tell the truth. That is the entire situation. Until that changes, people will continue to die.

Observers know.kne of us was murdered. And we're still out there. We will hold the line.

Fucking do something other than a phone call Tim. What the fuck, we are literally being executed in the streets.
I just spoke with the White House after another horrific shooting by federal agents this morning. Minnesota has had it. This is sickening.

The President must end this operation. Pull the thousands of violent, untrained officers out of Minnesota. Now.
January 24, 2026 at 4:28 PM
I hate with every fiber of my being what the federal government is doing. But I've never felt so bonded with my fellow Minnesotans before. Standing side by side with my neighbors, protecting them and documenting everything. It's powerful and dangerous but worth it.
I came to Minneapolis to report on what's going on, and one of the main questions I showed up with is "just what is the scale of the resistance?" After all, we're all used to the news calling Portland a "war zone" or whatever when it's just some protests in one part of town.

As an observer on the ground in MN, it is wild to me that every claim we make has video to back up our statement. DHS just says whatever the fuck they want, yet in a world where everyone has an HD camera in their pocket and ICE travels with videographers yet there isn't a single clip of ANY of this.
Border Patrol agents are very sad that everyone in Minnesota hates them.

“At each gas station where the agents stopped to use the restroom, groups of agitators appeared, yelled at them, stalked them, and even tried to prevent law enforcement vehicles from leaving…”
January 22, 2026 at 6:08 AM
There is no if. We will win and most of us will talk of this like they do the 91' blizzard.
Folks, if you know any Minnesotan, you'll know that many of us will bring up Minnesota and Minnesota things at every possible opportunity. If we manage to ride out military occupation, we're going to be absolutely insufferable for the next 20 years. Think about what you're risking here.

I'm on the ground in Minnesota as a legal observer. It can be very dangerous. For example, here is an ICE vehicle attempting to ram my car while legally observing. #ice #minnesota #legalonserver
