Is that why he got rid of speeding cameras that demonstrably worked in school zones? To stop people from being killed?

I used to live near here and loved how much people biked. Now I live in Scarborough and needed a second car because the bus can’t reliably get me to daycare pickup in time, so I drive and park at the subway. But it’s 3.5km from the subway to my kids daycare, which would be an easy bike ride.
I walked along a few kms of College St this morning before 9am. Day care drop then carried on. Watched the people push and cycle their kids around, some dad on a cargo bike waved & said hi to some tweens walking in front of me. All very Sesame Street.

And this gov't has contempt for it all.
A sad day for cyclists. Bill 60 - which prohibits the conversion of motor vehicle lanes to bike lanes (or any other prescribed purpose) - has passed Third Reading this morning which will kill various cycling projects in Toronto & across Ontario. #shame #BikeTO #BikeSky #TOpoli #ONpoli #VisionZero

Think of your favorite celebrity, whether they’re an actor, musician, athlete, whatever.

They’re probably pretty well-off, financially. But they are still closer to auctioning off their possessions to cover medical bills than they are to being a billionaire.

A man (a crossing guard!) is dead at the hands of a dump truck driver, and the Mayor is here to tell us that people walking and cycling have "a role to play in keeping our community safe."

No, Andrea. The dump truck driver has to not kill people, and you have to not let him kill people. That's it!

Canadians take pride in the whole “we burned down the White House” thing that happened during the revolutionary war before Canada was even a country.

I never thought the next time the White House was badly damaged would be by the act of their own president.

An adult driver angry at a child they hit with their car.

Our car culture summed up in one video.
Police in Airdrie, Alberta (just north of Calgary) say this driver hit a 17-year-old girl in a marked crosswalk, got out of the vehicle, and appeared to get upset at the teenager before driving away.

They released this video and are now trying to identify the driver.

I see pieces like this a lot, often w/ a spin of lamenting cultural degeneration, but reading is a LABOR issue, it’s declined because so many people are working overtime or two jobs & employers expect after hours work. France has Earth’s highest reading rate b/c long lunch breaks & labor protections

So just to be clear, all taxpayers will pay for traffic calming instead of fining the people that speed and leaving everyone else alone. We like this for a policy change? Are we so afraid of going after the actual rule breakers that we would rather put it on the back of everybody?

You can never convince me that getting a fine for doing something illegal is a cash grab.

There’s a speed camera in front of my house so I go by it a lot. You know what else is in front of my house? An elementary school with a daycare inside, four bus stops for two bus lines, and a crosswalk.

In the UK he would have lost his license within a month or two. In Canada he apparently gets infinite leeway to drive dangerously as long as he's rich enough to pay the fine, and apparently entitled enough to feel bullied.

I like Jimmy Kimmel. I really do. I have no issues with him.

I'm talking about something very different.

Kimmel was only suspended. But he's back now. Karen Attiah and all the other Black journalists are still fired.

Y'all do know how to fight, when you want to.

But you don't really want to. 🤷🏿‍♂️

This is an important point about keeping the focus on fascism instead of on Kimmel himself. There's a decent chance this ends with Kimmel getting his show back by making a statement about how we should all try to get along and how he supports ABC blah, blah. You don't want to tie yourself to that.
I wish people would stop simplifying this to "I quit Disney because they fired Kimmel." Nah. I quit Disney because they bent the knee to a fascist. I don't even like Kimmel but next will be someone I do. Below is the right take.
DISNEY: Wins 5 Emmys for ANDOR, a show about resisting fascism

ALSO DISNEY: Bends the knee to the federal government and suspends Jimmy Jimmy Kimmel for resisting fascism

Our politics seems to be entering a phase of "right supremacy" where only the lives of right-wingers have value. Assassinating the leader of a state legislative body in her own damn home was business as usual, but all of America has to have a reckoning if it's a far-right online influencer.

Never forget, a 13-year study found that protected bike-lanes led to a drastic decline in fatalities for all road users.

ALL ROAD USERS.

And painted bike-lanes? No safety improvement at all.

For sharrows, it’s actually safer to NOT have them.

I’m about to take a toddler and a 7 year old on VIA to Montreal. Definitely thought about driving instead.
We did 2 weeks in Italy in the spring w a toddler and some big luggages + stroller. Two coasts, some big cities, some small towns. We could never do it in Canada, not because of lack of rails (well) but our weird rules that encourage people to just rent a car.
Travelling Poland by train with a toddler the last two weeks and it’s been great! Dining cars, unlimited luggage, bike racks, special accessible cabins, plugs at every seat, easy online purchasing apps, etc…
