It's true but to me "the voters" are farther down on the responsibility scale. At the top are the elites who failed to understand the danger, the necessity for accountability, and kinda just hoped this would all go away. In a healthy political system he'd never be allowed to run again
The American people electing Trump after he staged a coup attempt 5 years ago was a nail in the coffin of our democracy. You can rationalize it all you want - But inflation! But wokeness! - but ultimately it was a societal suicide attempt and probably the dumbest collective voting decision ever made

it’s utterly insane that while we have republicans rewriting the history of the coup they attempted, the other side is busy rewriting history to excuse their inaction. super sustainable and healthy model of politics

The most unsubtle, heavy-handed claims made by pomo academic types have turned out to all be true. Gender is a relation of domination that requires constant, affirming witness. Capitalism will require extractive colonial relations. There’s no subtlety. Every day is like a 101 seminar at Oberlin.

Propaganda works - this is also why conservative oligarchs are investing so much to purchase trusted media brands and convert them into propaganda outlets
Excellent piece from @gelliottmorris.com on how your news diet affects your politics and how you view the Trump Regime. Those with a heavy diet of conservative media view Trump favorably, while those with a diet of non-conservative media view him unfavorably.

the real doom loop is service cuts to our transit system. if you cut frequency on an already infrequent system, it’s going to hurt ridership, which will lead to more cuts and fare hikes, which further hurt ridership. all of that of course adds future liabilities to the rest of the transport system

If the DEA had killed 80 innocent Americans in the course of apprehending one drug dealer, there would be riots. But we are so ghoulishly indifferent to the lives and humanity of people abroad that it's barely even part of the conversation.
A reminder that the US killed 80 people in Venezuela, and it would be nice if the US media cared enough to think that the life of a grandmother in Caracas whose building is destroyed by a US bomb matters as much as the life of a person in the US.

Can we just stop and put this into perspective:

Our Scandinavian allies put out joint statements today condemning the United States, and Denmark went as far as explicitly threatening military action while hinting at a potential invocation of Article 5.

That’s genuinely fucking insane.

contemptuous as I am of American news media, it's still jarring & nauseating seeing corporate outlets refer to kidnapping a head of state with Cop Speak like "captured" & "apprehended"

this stuff really does permeate society- if you tolerate it at any level it pollutes every level

-- Mexico
-- Colombia
-- Iran
-- Greenland (which in turn would be an attack on the EU and Denmark)

We need an age limit and recall powers
We need term limits for US Senators, Congressional representatives, and SCOTUS.

Also, we need leaders who actually enforce the US Constitution.
