Four flights at US airports over the past two weeks were extra nerve-wracking thinking about the unpaid ATCs being jerked around and insulted by the President and Duffy.

"Patriotism" as a condition of employment is problematic enough, but pretending that "not missing work due to illness" equals "patriotism" is the tell that this is nonsense.

I need Joyce Carol Oates to be mean to me online so I can get my life together

The Trump administration State Department is taking money that's supposed to be used for helping vulnerable refugees around the world and using it to bribe corrupt governments into taking people that ICE can't deport to their home countries.

How about we shut down the government for this very popular and specific goal and then, hear me out, we hold out for like a month and a half and then, ok this part is important, after a watershed election where we ran the table, ONLY THEN, fold and don't get the one thing we said we wanted.

“woke” is when you acknowledge that black people have contributed to the united states
Two panels commemorating the contribution of Black American soldiers towards the liberation of the Netherlands in World War Two have been quietly removed from a cemetery in Limburg. It follows a complaint by right-wing think tank The Heritage Foundation to the American Battle Monuments Commission.

Matt Walsh is so weird. Mamdani is an American. Period.

Walsh et al pretend that they welcome immigrants who "play by the rules", but they actually only consider immigration legitimate that plays by the secret extra rules of subservience to white supremacy.

They want an underclass, not neighbors.

Here's another bit of conventional wisdom Zohran completely blew away: His speech was at well above a 10th-grade level. It was complex, erudite, punctuated by deep and fluent references. You don't have to condescend to voters with baby talk! Part of re-establishing norms is speaking like an adult.

Democratic party leadership has been on autopilot for ten years, they weren't losing to fascism, fascism isn't popular enough for them to lose to fascism, they were allowing it to fill the void where their leadership should have been. Tonight we're seeing that we have other options. They should too.

Lots of folks are talking about this speech, and they should: among other things, it's an example of generational transition — there are clear Obama-esque inflections and references in here, but it serves as a foundation for newly ascendant political visions. www.youtube.com/watch?v=kOQT...

Boy Mamdani's race is really a vivid reminder that anti-Islamic bigotry is 100% accepted in US public discourse. People don't even bother dog whistling, it's just right out in the open.

It's important that politicians take their job seriously, but what Mamdani's campaign has really illuminated for me is how much I want candidates who are visibly full of joy and have a palpable love for their constituents, no matter how different they may be. Zohran's smile is infectious.

It's not in this article but the government asserts that the sandwich was thrown at "point blank range", which implies subway sandwiches have defined effective weapon ranges of varying lethality, and I would like to see the government's chart of these ranges.

This is true and also prefaces what happens when a group that measures reality in klout comes up short electorally: they can only conceive of the dissonance as fraud and claim conspiracy, amplifying their tendency toward violence.
My gut says that there’s a real chance the groyper right wins their internet war with the last remnants of the old-school GOP and completely seizes the comm apparatuses, and there’s a decent chance that takes them out electorally because that stuff does NOT play well with the general public.

Extraordinary how many establishment Democrats really wish they didn't have a talented rising new star who connects to people by talking to them and understanding what their interests are, then speaking to those interests. Genuinely curious which country’s House of Representatives Johnson thinks he is speaker of, given his glacial ignorance of the goings-on of this one.
Does the Speaker of the House know what's going on in the country?

It's not clear that he does, as Mike Johnson's communication strategy seems to rely heavily on being unaware.

When faced with questions he should be able to answer, he has a reliable response: "I don't know."
