I am going to steadfastly oppose AI/LLM usage in any - and I do mean any - capacity in our government functions. Our neighbors and our children deserve a real live human to communicate with when they need help. At the very least they don't need more mental health risks.

Science and truth still exist, as long as we keep the light on for them.

Thank you, @popsci.com
The name "Popular Science" doesn't mean we shift our coverage depending on public opinion. It means we cover relevant subjects that are rigorously researched, reliable, and grounded in reality.

And trans lives are grounded in reality.

We see y'all. No matter what.

Ninety-four percent of participants in a new study stood firm in their trans identity after five years, and "detransitioning" is rare.

At the HHS announcement yesterday announcing proposed rules to ban GAC, they said trans people are "at the root of the evils we face" and are "a hatred for nature as God designed it and for life as it was meant to be lived.”

Just in case you thought it was about concerns for proper healthcare.

I don't know, Aaron. I think we need to take this seriously. In fact, after surveying hundreds of years of history in the past few days, I've written an article assessing the originalist case here:

TIL about a memorial ceremony in Iceland in 2019 to mark the end of a glacier, changing the place name from Okjökull to Ok (jökull = glacier). Uncompromising wording on the bronze plaque:
"This is to acknowledge that we know what is happening and what needs to be done. Only you know if we did it".

AI/LLMs as currently deployed are bad and dangerous and wasteful, and one can make that case quite strongly *without* running hundreds of prompts to generate dunkable garbage.

I love to see new mayors putting the rubber to the road.

One thing that is tough about rapid response/patrols, besides constantly being threatened by armed secret police, is that for the most part they see the defeats. There are exceptions, but you’ll never know how many people were saved by slowing feds down, whistles, community alerts, etc.

We are in an extraordinary moment for the fight for trans lives and greater gender freedom for all.

I wrote this year’s Remembrance Report - about what we’re facing, where we came from, and why we will never forget those who came before us:

Tomorrow is Trans Day of Remembrance. Every year on TDOR, trans people lost to homicide and violence are remembered at memorials around the country and around the world.

But the story of Sam Nordquist, a young trans man who was tortured and killed this year, has haunted me like no other.
What happened in Room 22?
For a month, seven people held Sam Nordquist captive in a small hotel room, torturing him to death, authorities say. How did it go on in secret?

On this Transgender Day of Remembrance, we honor the trans people lost to violence in the U.S. this year.

Widespread poverty, homelessness, and discrimination makes trans people 4x more likely to experience violence than the average person.

We shouldn’t have to live in fear to be who we are.

What's going with habeas and ICE kidnappings is a perfect example of what I mean when I say courts won't save us.

Recently, ICE/the BIA made up a rule, saying nearly everyone ICE kidnaps is subject to "mandatory detention" (ie, no bail/bond).

282 out of 288 of judges to hear habeas cases disagree.
