No lawmaker in Congress should be able to buy, own, and sell individual stocks. Period. Let's make Congressional stock trading illegal.

We are in the midst of an almost two-century revolution in human health and longevity brought about by technologies like the MMR vaccine. That this revolution might be rolled back by idiots like RFK, at the cost of human lives, is morally repugnant.
This is completely disgusting. Today, the CDC updated their vaccine safety page. It now says:

“The claim "vaccines do not cause autism" is not an evidence-based claim because studies have not ruled out the possibility that infant vaccines cause autism”.

This is not a deal — it's an empty promise.

Trump and his Republican Congress are making healthcare more expensive for the middle class and ending it for working families.

Time for Democrats to stand tall for affordable healthcare. www.politico.com/news/2025/11...

I went a third of a century accepting, on the testimony of a cartoon, that coyotes chase roadrunners before I ever saw the real thing.
Wonder why this scene looks so familiar...

Chipp Neckwear sells a somewhat similar tie made from 100% silk (cat ties are often polyester). The design is supposed to mean something I won't repeat here bc it's vulgar. But it also represents how many cats treat their owners, so I like it. They also have dog ties. All ties are made in NYC

I remember some folks insisting in 2012 that the Democrats as portrayed in LINCOLN were too evil, no one could be that racist; and peeps do I have some bad news about 19th century reactionaries in the US.

Also just reactionaries, generally.
Your occasional reminder that test audiences for “Good Night, and Good Luck” said the actor playing Senator McCarthy was too over-the-top trying to make him into an obvious villain.

It wasn’t an actor. The film used real archival footage of the real Joseph McCarthy.
i'm reminded of that one anecdote where focus groups straight up didn't believe Romney's actual policy positions were real because they were too austere

i think a similar thing is happening for media people who live in denial of what the American right is all about, it's not just Twitter edgelords

"That's so evil I don't believe you're telling me the truth" is such a specific problem with our electorate.
Recently my brother in law explained what gerrymandering was to a coworker and they didn’t believe him because if that were really happening there would be riots in the street
This week I had someone tell me they're not worried about SNAP being cut off because "that's illegal, so it's impossible Trump could do that, so obviously it's just media sensationalism." Another person told me they weren't worried about ICE because "they can't detain you if you're legally here."

I think my favorite thing about "every city reveals its inner character" era of ice protests is that people keep saying portland is weird or cute or nice or silly when one of the most common chants at the ice building is people looking up at feds on the roof and yelling "jump! jump! jump!" in unison
Portland resists with whimsical improv theater, Chicago resists by screaming at weird jagoffs that don’t belong in the neighborhood. Every city brings its own strengths to the fight
The energy we need is this suburban dad standing out in the street -- barefoot with Blackhawks pajama pants on -- screaming at the masked goons to get the fuck out of their neighborhood.
