As long as I live under the capitalistic system, I expect to have my life influenced by the demands of moneyed people. But I will be damned if I propose to be at the beck and call of every itinerant scoundrel who has two cents to invest in a postage stamp.

“The white South African billionaire industrialist operating a gray-market methane plant in Mississippi to power his Electric Racism Factory” is a character type so absurdly on the nose that would get me laughed out of the writer’s room and yet.

And yet.
As an air pollution guy this is straight up false. EPA called them "stationary sources" and you cannot operate one without a permit. It couldn't be more simple

It should also be noted that while Nick Cave In Concert is almost certainly referring to the musician, Nick Cave the visual artist in concert would be less insane than it would be for most sculptors
The thing about confusing American visual artist Nick Cave with Australian musician Nick Cave is that even when the context is a one man show at an art museum you can’t be 100% sure because if there’s any musician who’s likely to get that treatment it’s Nick Cave
I did not know the other nick cave works and lives in Chicago
hes very creative

It reminds me of how there are two different Warrens Ellis, one is a musician who works with Nick Cave and the other is a comics writer and for years I thought they were the same guy because the comics writer seemed like the kind of guy who’d also do music with Nick Cave

My takeaway is the artist was told to draw painstakingly draw each hair in Platner's beard and then what they thought someone called Jasmine Crockett would look like
A base that has long made pragmatic, sober decisions appears increasingly attracted to charismatic outsiders who promise to break from the party’s failures of the last decade. They see their party’s leaders as feckless and inept.

It’s the Democratic Tea Party, with a twist. trib.al/mC5cBDA

The biggest political divide on here is not between left and liberal but between "politics is real and involves real outcomes for real people" and "no it doesn't fuck you"

The wise man bowed his head and spoke, “there’s only two types of things in the world, good things and bad things. You imbecile. You absolute fucking moron.”
You are either 100% full on board with someone or 100% against them. There is no in between.
a very persistent thing on here is

poster a: untrue claim about a political figure - often a justly dislikable or objectionable one
poster b: correction of untrue claim
poster a: oh so you support them

it's part of the general comprehension collapse but it's a distinct dynamic.

The cherry on the madness sundae of closing El Paso airspace is that El Paso has to be the most isolated big-ish city in the Lower 48. If your flight out of El Paso gets cancelled you’ve got one hell of a long and boring drive to the nearest US airport

Anyways, DSA is a faction of the Democratic Party, it's not my faction, but it's far from the worst, and I agree that being part of the same coalition as the dipshit tankies of the International Committee isn't any worse than being part of the same coalition with the ADL's donors.

“It’s the Legendary Singing Buick!”
Does anyone else have an MST3K line they use regularly, even if it makes no sense out of context?

Because I have both "That'll keep your panfish down for a while." and "Come come, boys, we must confound Jerry at every turn!" from MST3K the movie alone.
