Just noticed on an old VHS that Robert Patrick was wearing a NIN shirt when he was 3D scanned for the T-1000. That would have been 1990, so he was proudly supporting his brother Richard Patrick, who was in a new band called Nine Inch Nails at the time.

Also, a reminder Gordon Lightfoot's pronunciation of "Dee-troy-it" in the song is only odd if you didn't grow up listening to Bob Cole call the Leafs game on Hockey Night in Canada on CBET, Channel 9, CBC Windsor.

This Saturday will mark Michigan's first football game in Chicago proper since October 21, 1939, when Michigan defeated the Chicago Maroons [checks spreadsheet...double checks spreadsheet] 85-0.
Michigan is 14-13 all-time in Chicago, including the very first game in program history, 1-0 over Racine

So, this game, on November 30, was the latest that Michigan/Ohio State would be played until 1963 (postponed one week due to the Kennedy assassination), then 2013 (poor damn Devin Gardner's broken foot on a conversion attempt), 2019 (Don Brown's Final Repose), and 2024 (oh look, 13-10).

Man this felt strangely cathartic to vote in.
Also, I renew my call to allow Jason Benetti to call one CFB game with Robbie Hummel and to allow Dan Hicks to call one CFB game with Rowdy Gaines.

@glitterburrito.bsky.social Thoughts?
it's difficult to convey to a modern audience how Predator hit - it was 1987, and it had been a decade full of watching beefcake men like this be untouchable god kings, slaughtering their way through hordes of lesser men - and now here they were, getting picked off one at a time, easy victims
predator is a slasher movie and arnold schwarzenegger is the final girl

Today I learned (thanks, NPR) that from 1875 to 1975, there were more than 6,000 commercial shipwrecks on the Great Lakes. The publicity of song led to safety standard changes and there has not been a single commercial wreck since then.

Since I see far too many people at my job, I have a community to kibbitz with about six trivia questions a day for five straight weeks, which is an important outlet. #LL
as the husband of a mahjong addict, dudes need to identify an activity that can be done relatively easily in groups with minimal financial commitment so they can get out of the house for 2-3 hours on a school night, have two beers, and shoot the shit with their buddies.
It won't be mahjong tho.

Friends, though I have never seen it, I know that It's Academic is one of the bedrock layers upon which the trivia/quiz bowl community is built, especially in the DC Metro Area. Please consider helping if you can.

my boss is a Michigan Man, and I brought up the Edmund Fitzgerald today while we were waiting for a couple people to login to a meeting, and that was the most, most clearly, and most passionately I've ever heard him speak about anything.
Probably ten minutes straight, delayed company business.
