Gently suggesting that journalists who report the "news" of this Universal Music Group/CNN docuseries & fail to mention that UMG covered up the destruction by fire of its entire West Coast music archive (aka the biggest disaster in music biz history)—those journalists aren't quite doing their job

every music biopic is more than likely going to be very bad and this one shows no signs of breaking that trend, with the added layer of (apparently) eliding MJ's child sex abuse crimes, which not only happened, but were the primary component of his star image for years if not decades
The official trailer for the Michael Jackson biopic, 'Michael.'

My fav new album this week is Tempa Allstars Vol. 9, the first compilation in a decade from the legendary London label, which was revived in 2025 after a long hiatus. Still dubwise, and with a keen ear for innovative club music. Inc. new music by Hodge, Beatrice M. tempa.bandcamp.com/album/tempa-...

Even if it happens today, there will be documentaries and exposés and oral histories and books and essays and movies and scientific studies and art and of course jokes about him until my dying days.

Musician and producer Bryan Loren has died, probably best known for 'We'll Be Together' (Sting) and 'Do the Bartman', but this may be his best record: '(Baby Tell Me) Can You Dance', a hit for teen singer Shanice Wilson in 1987 www.youtube.com/watch?v=wkNR...

It is quite funny that younger people get told by my generation that the Nineties was all Britpop (or perhaps Grunge in the US), but if you actually look at the British charts, it's mostly dance records made in Italy and the Netherlands.

Great piece of writing about a song I had never given much thought. And glad I never started with alcohol. The guitar solo indeed sounds like a yelping dog.

And ofc the most significant "protest music" of the MPLS crisis is the callithumpian racket being kicked up by citizens themselves in the streets—alerting neighbors to the presence of Trump's thugs w/whistles & raising hell outside ICE agents' hotels w/drums, sticks, pots, pans, sirens, chants, etc.
