My fav new album this week is Airdrop II by the English 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿 producer Low End Activist, the follow-up to my number 1 album of last year. This time he employs stylistic elements of ‘90s drum ‘n bass, upcycling them into another blistering soundscape.

Dat is Twin Peaks: The Return. Hoe bestaat het dat je die gemist hebt? Is een fenomenale serie. Staat op SkyShowtime.

Maybe no surprise but I nevertheless had to make a (very much earned) effort to say that, after a weekend of heavy listening, yes, my fav new album this week is indeed Lux, the overwhelmingly ambitious and spectacular new one from Rosalía. This one’s going to stick around for a while, I’m sure.

Last week I saw Julia Roberts having an Alan Vega tour poster hanging on her office wall in Guadagnino’s After the Hunt. Tonight I heard Jeremy Allen Springsteen declare Suicide’s 1977 album the best ever in Deliver Us From Nowhere. Reminder that AV’s 2024 posthumous album was pretty great.

My fav new album this week (and his third of the year) is Heels Have Eyes 3 by Westside Gunn, who continues to mine his unique style of virtuoso shit-talking (ultraviolence, high fashion) over soul beats - sometimes without actual beats - and wrestling commentary.

My fav new album this week is Dutch 🇳🇱 producer Dave Huismans AKA A Made Up Sound and 2562’s untitled first record as In Transit. Mostly beatless ambient music to drift into space to, although there are some bass drum encounters about halfway through.

James Brandon Lewis 🎷 always a delight, whether with his trio, quintet or, tonight in Amsterdam’s Bimhuis, quartet (pianist not pictured)

My fav new album this week is TD10, the 10-year-anniversary compilation (with all new music) from the 👌🏻 Bristol-based Timedance label. 103 minutes of forward-facing club music from people like Bambounou, Polygonia, Minor Science and of course label owner Batu.

My fav new album this week is Dark Lights by the English composer and producer Gabriel Prokofiev, who unlike anyone I know is able to bring beats and electronics into orchestral music - probably because he’s versed in both. All musical elements fit together

You know you’re in for a good night out when you go see Sophie Ellis-Bextor in concert, and she absolutely did not disappoint in Amsterdam tonight 🔥🪩💃🏿

My fav new album this week is Underloop by the English 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿 DJ and producer Lukid. Decaying electronics, eroding beats and pretty melodies with an otherworldly aura, music that sparks the imagination and dreams of alternative possibilities.

My fav new album this week is Sgidiii Cartel by the 🇿🇦 South African DJ/producer Musical Jazz, an amapiano record that centers the rhythm above anything else. Some of the best and sharpest beats in the genre. Despite the name, not too many melodic distractions.
