One of the most intense B-52's tapes I've heard — some of Cindy's shrieks are awesomely terrifying.
The B-52’s - Duffy’s, Minneapolis, Minnesota, October 4, 1979 https://doomandgloomfromthetomb.tumblr.com/post/800837632370311168
_**The B-52’s - Duffy’s, Minneapolis, Minnesota, October 4, 1979**_ Another week, another legend on Aquarium Drunkard’s Transmissions podcast. This time around, Jason P. Woodbury talks with Kate Pierson of the B-52s — a wide ranging chat that gets into Devo, Pee-Wee Herman, Yoko Ono, Julee Cruise and beyond. The B-52s are never anything less than fascinating; I heard there was a documentary in the works a few years back, but it may still be in the planning stages. I’m sure it would be great. The Beach Boys took the “America’s Band” title at some point, but we’d be better off it was the B-52’s, frankly. **Kate Says:** Well, the B-52s writing together was very complex because it’s by committee, putting the songs together. I mean, that’s what really made us unique though, is that we write like that, and when you do that sort of jamming and you get our collective unconscious going and all this stuff spews out of your mind, of the collective mind. You never know what’s going to happen. Listening to this week’s Transmissions naturally put me in the mood to listen to the B-52s, so I went to a vintage audience tape of the band in Minneapolis in 1979 — and it did not disappoint. In fact, it might be one of the most purely intense B-52s tapes I’ve heard, the quartet tearing through their early repertoire with endless reserves joy and vigor. Next stop, Planet Claire …

we are returning to the state in which the framers intended for the legislature, in which the lower chamber and the upper chamber absolutely despise one another
The House has voted unanimously to repeal the provisions in the shutdown package which allow GOP Senators to sue the federal government and get as much as $1 million in damages - because the feds looked at their phone records in the Jan. 6 investigation.

For every 3 international students who attend college in the US, 1 job is created/supported, totaling 378,000 in FY24.

This year, thanks to Trump & the GOP gleefully screwing over working people, the number is down to 355,736, for a loss of more than $1.1 billion and nearly 23,000 jobs

How are rural residents supposed to shop around for emergency care? What do they do when there's only one hospital for miles?

Especially when GOP Medicaid cuts are CLOSING those hospitals!
Cassidy: "If she goes and gets 2 types of shampoo & one is a dollar cheaper, she'll get the cheaper one & the other lowers their price. Once you give her the power of making the decision, she's gonna shop -- that begins to save her money and squeezes waste out of the healthcare system."

I'll never get over how all of these companies folded like wet cardboard when a dim NYC real estate conman operating at a fourth grade reading level demanded they all be more sexist and racist (or at best hide their efforts to be kind and inclusive under a tarp)

What stage of the Emperor having no clothes are we at here? Like, the live-streamed colonoscopy stage?
Trump on Jerome Powell: "I'd love to fire his ass. He should be fired. The only thing Scott [Bessent] is blowing it on is the Fed. The rates are too high, Scott. And if you don't get it fixed fast, I'm going to fire your ass."

The important thing to bear in mind as Trump's popularity begins to wobble is that the disastrous economic consequences of the things he's done in the first 10 months of this term have not even *begun* to hit. We've been coasting on the fumes of the economy he inherited and soon they'll be gone.
my wife and her entire team were fired over Zoom from their program manager jobs at a local nonprofit Seattle hospital this Spring because Trump just stopped paying Medicaid reimbursements. and this is a relatively affluent urban center

we're really not prepared for what's coming
As a direct result of President Trump's Big Ugly Bill, almost 300 jobs will be cut from Providence Swedish's First Hill, Cherry Hill, Ballard, and Issaquah hospitals and clinics. These are not the only layoffs we've seen in our health care system in Washington state in recent months.

I have no doubt they will have been heavily tampered with. I have just as little doubt that the morons who still work for Trump will have not been clever enough to make the tampering anything else but completely obvious
The problem with having rather openly purged DOJ of all but the most shameless stooges and loyalists is precisely this: Even once the Epstein files are released, why would anyone believe that release is complete and undoctored?
At this stage there’s literally no reason to believe the admin, even if it releases more than you’d expect, are being forthcoming. It’s the opposite of conspiracy theory to look at the proudly lawless pattern of deception and raw power that this trump admin has engaged in then to conclude they’d…

It's your responsibility to not get cancer!

This message brought to you by the Republican Party
Markwayne Mullin: "Reward people for being healthy. Think about this. Healthcare is the only industry that you're not rewarded for taking care of your responsibility. If you think about homeowners insurance, if you're within 500 feet of a fire hydrant, your insurance goes down."

New: Reuters has tallied job losses, suspensions and investigations stemming from the reaction to Charlie Kirk's Sept. 10 assassination. Its findings: More than 600 Americans have been punished, and the figure is likely to be an under-count.

You can just tell him no! Practically everybody hates him!
an important message to elite society in general:

this is an unpopular, weak and failing lame duck president and you can just tell him no
can we appreciate just how badly Johnson and Trump played this Epstein vote? total failure of a pressure campaign, delayed for months to ensure it stays in the news and immediately swamps "the Dems caved" as soon as the shutdown ends, and now it passes 427-1

couldn't have gone worse if they tried

This is a succinct description of it. Dementia progression is different for different people and the medication he is taking is likely helping but the cracks are still there and becoming increasingly difficult to write off as anything other than a marked cognitive issue
"Trump has a playlist of grievances and stories in his head. He spits them out somewhat randomly. This is the weave and it’s always been part of his charm. But what seems to be happening here is that Trump can’t tell his stories apart." www.thebulwark.com/p/trump-is-n...

Is it a threat to free speech when the President of the United States threatens to yank the broadcast license of a channel whose reporters are asking him challenging questions?

I ask because I feel like there used to be tons of pundits worried about free speech. Where'd they go?
Trump in response to an Epstein question: "ABC, your company, your crappy company is one of the perpetrators. I think the license should be taken away from ABC because your news is so fake and so wrong. And we have a great commissioner, a chairman, who should take a look at that."

The GOP-friendly press can chuckle and say "it will never happen to us", either turning a blind eye to or outright ignoring what happens when literally ANYBODY gets in his way; for instance, the state senator in Indiana who got swatted the other day
Trump suggests Khashoggi had it coming: "You're mentioning someone that was extremely controversial. A lot of people didn't like that gentleman that you're talking about. Whether you like him or didn't like him, things happen. But he knew nothing about it. You don't have to embarrass our guest."

Quoting “a pretty good source,” he says “they’re scrubbing the files to take Republican names out.”
