Rep. Adam Smith
@adamsmith.house.gov
Representative for Washington State's 9th District.
The charges filed against Congresswoman McIver are without justification and a gross abuse of prosecutorial power. It is a disturbing overreach for the Executive Branch to criminalize a Member of Congress. I join my colleagues in standing behind Congresswoman McIver against this baseless charge.
Today’s decision is disappointing. I am not in this fight only for myself, and I’m concerned that this decision will simply embolden the administration.

This case is not over. I am committed to protecting my community, our people, and our country.

Since February, families in Washington state have paid more than $948 because of inflation under Trump. Despite his promises that he'd "bring the cost of everything way down," the cost of basic groceries including coffee, beef, and bananas have increased for most Americans.
Fact check: Trump falsely claims it’s only beef, but dozens of groceries have gotten more expensive this year | CNN Politics
President Donald Trump keeps saying beef is the only grocery product that has gotten more expensive during his second presidency.

We need to build a large coalition. I joined @king5news.bsky.social earlier this week to talk about the path forward for Democrats.

Throughout the shutdown, Donald Trump and House Republicans tried to inflict the maximum amount of pain on the American people.

Apprenticeship programs in our state offer a path to meaningful, high-paying careers without requiring costly four-year degrees.
More WA students are getting a jump start on their careers. Here's how
The number of apprentices has soared more than 70% in the past decade in Washington, thanks to more funding for earn-while-you-learn programs.

I completely agree with Ron that insurance companies play a role in bringing up our high health care costs. The United States spends the most amount of money on health care out of any country, yet we don’t get the results we deserve.

38,853 households in Washington's Ninth rely on SNAP funding but the Trump Administration has repeatedly put these benefits in peril.

Today, the House will be voting on a bill to reopen the government after this 43 day shutdown. This is why I'm voting no: youtube.com/shorts/a7THA...

I’m continuing to hold to ground for my constituents like William. He deserves his benefits as a veteran, just as he and his neighbors deserve affordable health care. We must come together as a Congress and find a bipartisan solution to this shutdown.

Happy Veterans Day to all those in WA-09 who faithfully served our nation. I will continue to honor and fight for our veterans and recognize the immense sacrifices they’ve given for the American people.

I want the government to be open, but will not cave to Trump's demands that hurt my constituents.

Happy 250th birthday to the United States Marine Corps. Thank you for your relentless service to our country and your fighting spirit. Semper fidelis.

A couple in WA-09 could see health care premiums increase by almost $15,000, all because Republicans prioritize ripping away critical health care from hard-working families over negotiating with Democrats.

$125 increase per person. That’s the reality that Kathleen in Kent is facing.

Republicans are trying to strip your health care by jacking up monthly costs. They must come back to work and deliver for families like Kathleens. I will continue to stand up for you and your health insurance.

The President doesn't care about affordability, but I know many in the Seattle-area are struggling to make ends meet right now. I'm fighting to lower costs for you.

The Trump Administration is making a choice to fight against a court order mandating they feed 42 million Americans.

They are intent on inflicting the maximum amount of pain on the American people from this shutdown.

Uncompensated care is a huge part of what drives up costs for providers, so we are trying to cover as many Americans as possible under the Affordable Care Act to lower health care prices for all in the marketplace.

A couple in Seattle could see their monthly health insurance bill increase by over $1,500 next year all because Republicans would rather fund billionaire tax breaks than allow middle class and working-class families to afford coverage.

In a time when the President and his administration are targeting immigrants and those seeking a better future, I am proud to be an original cosponsor of the Lady Liberty Act. This legislation would require the President to set a goal of admitting no less than 125,000 refugees annually.

SNAP benefits have been reduced, federal workers are going without pay, and health care premiums are skyrocketing for millions of Americans.
November 6, 2025 at 4:24 PM
Bridget from Bellevue just got notice that her family’s health care insurance is expected to skyrocket by 50%. Families in our country cannot afford to see premiums jump by $19,000 a year.

November 1 has passed -- what does that mean for the health care premiums? When do the high health care premium prices go into effect? I walk through the timeline and what could still happen.
