Dude regularly works for Disney, DreamWorks, Netflix and CN so speculate away. But this sucks no matter which studio is doing it, and gross to think some major movie this year is running with a plagiarized image from ChatGPT.
Post from Art Director Bill Robinson on LinkedIn saying: Welp, it finally happened. I was hired to work on a MAJOR live action Hollywood film (and I mean it’s one of the biggest anticipated films of the year). They needed a small animated sequence and wanted a character designer. I was handed a ChatGPT image and told “make it different”. I did - I spent hours finessing the design into something better and more specific for the character in the film. Waited a week for notes - then was told they got clearance from legal to use the original AI image instead. No need for any further work. This is what the director wanted. What are we doing as a society? What’s the endgame here? Replace every human until we are all homeless? I just don’t get it. If a major Hollywood film with a huge budget doesn’t see the need to work with real artists, is there any hope left?

I wish the new Quantum Leap hadn’t been cancelled. It was exactly what we’ve been missing - a scifi series made on a relatively low budget that produced 20 episodes a year that told low stakes adventures & socially conscious stories. Hell, they even did a “trans woman should be in sports” episode!

This is a great thread, but it’s just an odd to me that this conversation KEEPS happening in Trek. It happened in the 60s with Pike’s beep chair, the 80s with Geordi’s visor, in the 2010s with another background disabled extra in Discovery. Eugenics arguments really are tedious and boring.

I have a friend who said, of Starfleet Academy, that this took them out of it - that seeing a person in a wheelchair in the 32nd century seemed unrealistic, since medicine in Star Trek "should be able to cure whatever was wrong with them."

That's not the case, for any number of possible reasons.

The Federation is a severe outfit at the beginning of this show. At the beginning of STARFLEET ACADEMY, they are still recovering from The Burn and from some of the restrictions that they instilled after The Burn. But nevertheless, I think Nahla really takes some of those steps that she was responsible for when she quits. And I think that child, she feels compelled to make that right, as mysterious as that is to search the galaxy for a person who is orphaned, possibly. I love the mysticalness of that, and I love that there was something deeply mysterious about that search. We all make mistakes. I don't know."

A nice anecdote to cap the night. Today was an especially long day. As I got out of the car, a group of young black kids maybe 6-8 yrs were out playing. I let Willow out of my car & heard the little girl say: “A dog! Dogs are scary!” The little boy said “They’re ok. Thats Willow & The Professor”

Believe that they're really ending the surge in Minnesota when people on the ground say it's happened but also *even* if this is nothing but more face saving, it's a huge acknowledgement that they know they're losing and that the people of Minnesota are never going to stop protecting their neighbors
