My friends call me Kate (pronouns: She/Her), and I'm a lifelong Trekkie and Star Wars fan. I enjoy movies, TV, and comic books, and I also write fanfiction. I'd be posting more fandom stuff if the world wasn't going to heck.

Colourful futuristic food cubes, dyed fruit slices or whole dyed apples are seen in 19 episodes of #StarTrekTOS all in all. Blue food cubes are my favourite, as they are seen only rarely in all those episodes. :-)

the thought I’ve said in multiple interviews and panels is that with each new iteration (mostly), Star Trek moves ever closer to living up to its own ideals

it’s not made in a vacuum and every iteration is a product of its time, but it keeps getting closer to becoming the self it professed to be
Star Trek has changed over the years. The Star Trek that was made in the 60s and the Star Trek being made in the 2020s are very different beast, presented and constructed differently.

I believe that the core message is the same, even if it looks different. I like that it grows

This has always been my question: if we are all put out of work…who will buy their shit??
This is the thing that’s so stupid/horrifying about Big Tech’s shiny promises of our “AI future.”

*If* it works like they promise (and there’s no evidence it does or ever will), the result will be massive unemployment and conscious human-level intellects treated as slaves.

Who wants that?
i have to wonder what kind of future AI hypebeasts are imagining when they say stupid shit like, "most or all of white collar tasks will be automated within 18 months". like, okay, microsoft, then who are your customers? who is purchasing O365 subscriptions when robots are doing all the work?

I love this scene. I thought INTO DARKNESS was gonna tackle the militarization of our society, but then Khan shows up and all that is jettisoned.

Glad, #StarfleetAcademy is exploring this theme somewhat with the rivarly between SFA and the War College.

Spontaneously remembered a random little detail from one of Trek's pilot episodes

Enterprise limps to Delta Vega for repairs and has to scavenge parts from an automated base to get the ship working again.

When's the last time Trek did something like that? Shows how far they were from home.

The *vast majority* of people who work at Meta today are people who willingly chose to work at the company after it directly enabled a genocide, according to multiple independent global human rights organizations, including Amnesty International. It is a warehouse for psychopaths.
This company is so uniquely toxic and awful.
Meta's plan for launching glasses that people can use to secretly identify strangers on the street is to do it "during a dynamic political environment" when people who care about why that's bad are "focused on other concerns."

Harvard said no to Trump's abusive demands, went to court, and the govt is left sputtering.

Columbia, Cornell, and Northwestern giving in was a big mistake. If only there were lessons against appeasing fascists.
This is a genuinely huge, sweeping victory today for the University of California—or rather, for us, its faculty, acting through our faculty associations, while the UC itself maintained a strict policy of deer-in-headlights silence.
