2026 Reading Thread!

I managed 50 books in 2025, not counting rereads. So here we go for 2026!

First up, we have The Tainted Cup. I've been waiting on this for a few months from the library, so I'm excited.
Three weeks ago, Zoey discovered there was space for her to sit on the end of my desk.

We now have this.

Someone was abducted at 10 AM by ICE on Central Ave. Their coworker says they’ve lived here for over 20 years, are documented, and have 3 kids who were born here.

Don’t be fooled by headlines when they’ve been lying to us the whole time. We still need you out patrolling until every agent is gone.

This isn't over, y'all.

They will leave here, but it's only a matter of time before they go somewhere else.

They learned from us. Yes, they learned that a community will not ignore them when they come, that they will face resistance. They learned they will be hounded, hated, and harassed.

This is the correct answer.
It ain’t over til Minnesota has ICE’s battle flag

I don’t really know what I expect in posting this, but maybe some people see it and can learn from it.

I’ll call it “lessons from an unwilling immigration attorney.”

I've seen this movie and it doesn't end well for the humans.
Experiments conducted with the A.I. system Claude are producing fascinating results—and raising questions about the nature of selfhood. Gideon Lewis-Kraus reports from inside the company that designed it, Anthropic. newyorkermag.visitlink.me/rOfXjg

Can confirm. It feels like the focus is off us now.

Nothing's different, folks. The invaders are still here, they're still kidnapping our neighbors, they're still violating our rights. The local cops are helping them and our electeds are mostly useless.
There’s a sentiment among some locals that eyes on Minnesota are waning. The situation has NOT changed here.

Local resistance is tired, but of course never giving up. Please stay plugged into the news of the Minneapolis ICE occupation and donate where able.

We need endurance in this moment.

Okay does anyone else find it gross that there are all these interviews with Lindsey Vonn's dad saying she'll never race again "if he has anything to say about it"? Like that's gross, right?

The ghosts of Bill Millin and Jack Churchill smile down upon this man. As someone said in the comments, fighting fascists and invaders with bagpipes has a proud and noble history.
Jack Duffy attaches a respirator to his bagpipes to play through tear gas. “I always play it whenever the police retreat because it's like, ‘You fucking ran while we stayed,’” he says.

This right here.
I have no idea what's going on but I am happy that this is making the worst people in the world very angry.

kind of funny that an olympian said they are here to represent "compassion, respect, and love for others" and some people automatically knew that was a statement against them

I hear we are needing to remind people again that men can wear things besides pants.
a man in a kilt is squatting down on a rock .
Alt: Jamie Fraser from Outlander is half-kneeling on a rock. He wears a kilt that flutters gently in the breeze.

There is stuff Bridgerton gets wrong. A few things it gets VERY wrong.

But there was a scene in S4 that brought my 44-year old perimenopausal self to tears. Thank you, showrunners and writers and directors and actress Ruth Gemmell, for that.

Still dizzy today, but I'm going to take the small wins. I feel much better than I did the day after my last one, and the migraine itself wasn't nearly as bad. I got it early and my triptan did what it was supposed to do.
February 7, 2026 at 3:47 PM
Migraines are such an asshole condition. Oh, you had PLANS for the day? Nope, fuck you, your vestibular system is gonna go for a riiiiiide, bitch! And there's nothing you can do except take your meds and hold on!

On the plus side, I slept for most of the afternoon and am feeling better.

Minnesota has responded to our invasion by turning up the Minnesotan to 11.

Everywhere I go, people are reinforcing community. Everyone is chatting at stores, in line, at gyms, everywhere. It's part of the culture here but at the same time it's weird and wonderful.
