I don’t know why I post this stuff but just trying to occasionally lighten the timeline slightly or something.
Friends who do the NJ to NY commute say the first hell morning was very long but okay given everything, so that's good news for folks.

Punishing students for protesting ICE is an excellent way to communicate that you are not there to serve the community or keep them safe. No points for humanity or basic decency but bravo for honesty, I guess.
The LAPD is citing truancy laws in an attempt to squash the ongoing school walkouts against ICE. The LAPD is also threatening to arrest any parents or adults who support the kids in their acts of civil disobedience.

stay strong, kids.
"...alleging that school officials failed to ensure student safety and minimize classroom disruptions."

(because ICE raids on school grounds...oh never mind)

They're not done with curricular censorship, but cracking down on student speech and behavior is a real focus now.

NJ Transit has suggested passengers work from home if possible over the next month as Amtrak moves traffic over to a new bridge. We're live for the first regular workday of disruptions, a test for commuters and the rail line.

This is simply terrifying. I remember when I read a long piece about how the Covid vaccine was invented and I cried (I do not cry easily) because I worked in NYC and so many people had died and it was all so visceral at the time. God we are fucking fools. www.nytimes.com/2026/02/16/h...

Hi! Asking for your help!

We're trying to reach as many Indiana University Alums as possible. If you could share or even send this letter to any alumni you know, our group would really appreciate it.

There's a link to sign on to the pledge at the end of the letter.
Word is that the IN legislation to restore alumni-elected members to the IU BOT is already dead.

With that in mind, pushing back against Pam Whitten and Mike Braun is more important than ever. Please read and pledge your support. And share with all your #IU pals!

I could never do this pair stuff. If I fell and my partner didn't I would never get over it. And being afraid of that happening would basically ensure that I did fall. There is no rational or logical reasoning that would help in this situation.

This drives me absolutely insane. I've also noticed that parents don't make any moves to get children out of the path of a runner/walker/biker on a narrow sidewalk or path...maybe it starts there.
The near-total absence of spatial awareness in outdoor spaces is one of those things that would make me furious if it didn't amaze me. People walk around as if no one or nothing else exists. Maybe it's the phones. I don't know.

This.
They want to scare people out of posting ICE-critical content, because they know these posts are turning even their supporters against them. But the better option is to take a page out of their playbook and flood the zone.
Posting about ICE on Instagram is now enough to get you an “administrative subpoena.” 👀

I'm generally open to trying new approaches to things, but these seems to me *wildly* risky not to disclose up top. I can't claim to know how an anti-vax mom would respond I guess.
I was so impressed with this story about measles in the Atlantic -- the depth of reporting it would take to weave in all these details so fluidly.

Turns out, it was a work of fiction. She researched the effects of measles, but lots of fiction writers do research. www.niemanlab.org/2026/02/the-...
