As of 6 p.m., about 1.85 million New Yorkers had voted, already more than the final total in any election since 1993. Turnout is on track to surpass 2 million for the first time since 1969, when John V. Lindsay won re-election.

When fall weather rolls around and I can open my windows again without getting eaten by mosquitos, I am reminded that 25 years of church choir permanently took over over large parts of my brain every time the bells on the nearby church do thrice-daily concerts and I know all the words to the songs.
