the rage I feel is slipping containment
My guess is that the goal here is not only to punish the children for turning more people against ICE/DHS, but also to make news outlets think twice about reporting on kids' suffering at the hands of ICE/DHS, out of concern that doing so might lead to retaliation against the kids.
ProPublica published children's letters and drawings documenting their sadness and suffering at Dilley. And Dilley staff are now retaliating by confiscating kids' letters and drawings.

A group of pediatricians wrote an op-ed detailing the traumatic, lasting effects kids in detention centers will endure:

We're pediatricians. We see how ICE is harming children. | Opinion
Liam Ramos is one of more than 1,700 children to have been put in family detention centers since 2025. We call for these centers to close.

The drunk uncle theory.

You don’t argue with the casually homophobic uncle at Thanksgiving dinner to change his mind; you argue so that the closeted cousin at the kids table knows there’s safe people and better possibilities out there
agree with this (hah) but also think a particular mistake the left made for a long time online, and still makes to an extent, is failing to understand that the person whose mind you may actually change is the one reading the argument you're having, not the one you're arguing with
The secret to engaging in social media debate is knowing you will never win anyone over. The best you can hope for is to have people who already agree with tell you you're awesome. You might great a dopamine thrill from the righteousness of your anger! Fine benefits, all. But you will never win.

There is no drawdown. There is no retreat. ICE is just redistributing their assets to better avoid accountability.
The same day DHS announced the surge would end in Minnesota, ICE activity increased in small towns
The less densely populated areas outside the Twin Cities make it harder for protesters and observers to organize.

I remember sitting by the banks of the Chatahoochee River, talking with @cindyermus.bsky.social about this volume. We knew we had the themes to publish the volume from @ageofrevolutions.bsky.social for such a book. As it turned out, it’s better than either of us imagined!
Happy #pubday to "The Global Age of Revolutions: A History from 1650 to Today," edited @bryanbanksphd.bsky.social and @cindyermus.bsky.social!

for folks out of town - Central Ave runs north through Northeast Mpls to Columbia Heights to Fridley to Blaine. Dense and then less dense suburbs with lots of working class families (Blaine also has some mcmansion complexes and even the occasional farm). Occupation spreading out.
There has been no draw down today. ICE snatched someone off Central Ave out of his car because he looked Latino before then letting him go a couple hours later. They were stopping people in Blaine on highway 65, they were all around Fridley, and were in the parking lot of the St Anthony liquor store
