Update to the genAI stuff. Concerning that LA Worldcon is spending money on images that are listed as free on a stock image site. Also, the image is very clearly AI. Doesn't take much effort to figure that out, labeled or otherwise (also, the image is very clearly labeled on Freepik).
This image was part of a package the convention purchased from a stock photo site in 2024. It was not labelled as AI-generated, and has been in the back-end of our website since then.

Wow! Go back up and ready this whole thread.
At war's start, Smallbones was evacuated back to Britain along with all other diplomatic staff and their families. By this point he had made the Nazi list of people to be rounded up, if Britain was invaded.

He enquired how many people had gotten visas through his scheme.

VERY important for US university professors because the semester is starting!!!

If certain people come to your class asking for this information, you can send them away! (Ofc it is not guaranteed they will go away, but this is how it technically works.)

#HigherEd #LFK #KU #Jayhawks
Reminder to professors because I am seeing some baffling discussions. If classroom information is requested by authorities:

Records requests should go to your records dept, not you, the professor.

Subpoenas, judicial warrants should go to your legal dept, not you, the professor.

Commentary: Book-ban legislative two-step damages parents’ rights
A pair of legislative bills argue that the law gives school districts too much discretion over school-library book bands, a contradiction with a Supreme Court ruling. Both are damaging.

"...we live in a failed system. Capitalism does not permit an even flow of economic resources. With this system, a small privileged few are rich beyond conscience and almost all others are doomed to be poor at some level."

Library workers are burned out, and they're clear on what's creating some of the worst mental health conditions both inside and outside the library.

Here's what they had to say, as well as ways and means by which library worker mental health can be improved. This is a call to action.
Last summer, I surveyed library workers about the ways library work impacts their mental health, and they responded.
