Generative AI is a blight. Over and over, digital audio and video professionals like @deannachapman.bsky.social and myself are being told that our human skills and experience are simply no longer valued.

I legitimately don’t know what to do at this point.
So far this morning I've seen podcast/video producer jobs that are unpaid and <$4 above Seattle's minimum wage.

Amazon's AI Video Producer and Editor role? $100-183k salary with benefits.

This is my personal hell.

I'm sick that ~10% of the money I earn goes into this war-criming machine, with zero debate about the wisdom of doing so from the people who ostensibly represent us.

I'm sick of war criminals never facing accountability.

I'm sick of feeding this monster.

I'm sick of being an American.

The United States is so drunk on its belief in its own exceptionalism, we cannot see how clearly the totality of human history demonstrates that when the wealthy are afforded too much power, it craters nations, empires and civilizations, because they believe they are better and always deserve more.

I turned 18 in 2001, I was totally anti-war then and uh that take aged great. But I'll say it's hard to describe the feeling of living through the last couple decades plus and watching so many blatant war profiteers get away with just about everything.

Let more women play unrepentant, no punches pulled, outright villains. Not some "sympathy for the devil" character but downright evil. I guarantee there are plenty of actresses who would jump at the chance.

Another great example: Rose the Hat. What actress wouldn't want to rock a role like that?

The US military would gun down an entire township of American children and not bat an eye. There are no Good Soldiers just like there are no Good Cops.
Perhaps now people will stop wishcasting about the US military refusing illegal orders. That's not a thing that happens. The 100% compliance rate with using civilian boats for target practice was a bit of a tell.

Though she's given just enough to eke out one or two devil sympathy points, I'd also include Patti LuPone as Mona Wasserman in this crew of incredible women villains. Her omnipotence is terrifying and she annihilates the screen when she shows up. Again, who wouldn't want to eat this kind of role up?

I wish Jennifer Jason Leigh in THE HATEFUL EIGHT was embraced as one of the best female antagonists in recent movie history. An amazing villain in an ensemble with no heroes. This moment alone is never far from my mind.

Watch all of these. You can skip MANIAC COP 3 if you really want, but the rest are so worth your time, especially MANIAC COP 2. Bless @criterion.bsky.social for putting this together.

People who think Kurosawa is “homework cinema” need to be slapped around a bit.
so cool that when Kurosawa made Seven Samurai, he was like, "What if a movie absolutely ripped for three-and-a-half hours straight?"

I watched, ranked, and reviewed every Don Bluth directorial feature on Letterboxd, and we did multiple Stallone flicks on @genrevision.com (COP LAND, COBRA, FIRST BLOOD PART II, OVER THE TOP).

What matters most is this: watch COP LAND. Don't watch THE PEBBLE AND THE PENGUIN.

For those who (apparently) misunderstood.

Of course there are tons of other movies to watch this year. I'd love to live in a world where PRIMATE gets to dominate discussion by releasing tons of trailers over a year, and everyone tells me to shut up because I'm not stoked about PRIMATE.

Long year.
It's going to be a long, long, long year for those of us who don't care about DisneyMarvel. Please consider us during this difficult period.
