One of the most under-covered stories of our era is the power of these expensive PR firms in shaping news coverage and for whom and to what ends that power is deployed.
Publicists who represented Johnny Depp during his 2022 trial against Amber Heard charged Jeffrey Epstein five figures a month for representation during 2017, according to invoices in the Epstein Files. Their PR strategies for Epstein reflect the later MeToo backlash. spitfirenews.com/p/epstein-jo...

Nothing succeeds like excess:

You may not be conversant with the full majesty of birthday girl Carmen Miranda. Her film biography was entitled “Bananas is my business” and here, deliriously, is why.
The first 40 secs are “Excuse me?” Then increasing derangement begins.

Reminder that two of Ravelry's top patterns right now are melt the ice hat (knit) and melt the ice hat (crochet)
A reminder — there are *millions* of social sites on the internet, like Storygraph for your reading and Ravelry for your knitting, etc. It’s only the biggest, run by the extremist fascists, that do these terrible things. Don’t define the internet by a handful of apps run by 5 sociopaths.

Reminder that not only do library systems have physical media (& many also lend tools, electronics etc), your library card may give you access to streamers Kanopy and Hoopla. We just watched Francis Ford Coppola’s adaptation of The Rainmaker via a hoopla the other night. Pretty good!
“As prices for streaming subscriptions continue to soar and finding movies to watch, new and old, is becoming harder as the number of streaming services continues to grow, people are turning to the unexpected last stronghold of physical media: the public library.”
The Last Video Rental Store Is Your Public Library
Audio-visual librarians are quietly amassing large physical media collections amid the IP disputes threatening select availability.
