I know some were lukewarm on Union (Brett Story & Stephen Maing, 2024), but IMO it's brilliant. By laser-focusing on Amazon, it manages to be pro-union without indulging in any sentimental nostalgia. So great to see today's unions treated as aesthetically interesting and politically relevant topics.

Lily Taylor and Michael Imperioli were a couple in real life during this period; both intensely committed to their craft but also before big career breakthroughs so there's still something of an unpolished-gem quality evident in their performances ...

Evening viewing recommendation? Watch HOUSEHOLD SAINTS (1993) now playing in our Directed by Nancy Savoca collection!
Based on the novel by Francine Prose, Savoca’s wonderfully warm chronicle of a spirited Italian American New York family gracefully balances humor, tragedy, and pathos.

SABLE (2025) • Now playing on the Criterion Channel.
Directed by Erinn Springer, this previously unreleased three-screen triptych film serves as a sublimely meditative visual accompaniment to Bon Iver's acclaimed 2024 EP of the same name.

I just watched #Obsession (1949, Edward Dmytryk) on @criterionchannl.bsky.social and it was one of the best new-to-me classic films I've seen in 2025. An excellent story, great performances and very dynamic pacing. I LOVED IT.

If you've never seen it, make it a priority this #Noirvember.

Evening viewing recommendation? Watch GRIZZLY MAN (2005) in our Directed by Werner Herzog collection. Herzog's gripping documentary chronicles one of the most extreme-and ultimately tragic-experiments in human-animal cohabitation ever attempted.

If you haven’t seen it, Werner Herzog gets the best out of Nic Cage in the way he once did with Klaus Kinski — w/ Cage playing the drug addicted degenerate cop in NOLA right around the Hurricane Katrina fallout. It’s so insane that you end up actually rooting for him.

To all the folks enjoying “La Llorona” for #folkhorrorfriday, I highly recommend “Rita” by the same director, Jayro Bustamante. It deals with very difficult (real world) horror and tragedy with a similar delicate touch.
