the future of the democratic party is a coalition of the wokest people on tumblr and absolutely dead-eyed pursuers of the national interest and the maximization of GDP
funny that the two groups in the political class who have been the least enthusiastic about trump term 2 are like neocon blob guys and economists
I feel like the econ policy people have been less annoyingly centrist on Trump than the rest of the think tank ecosystem purely because the only concrete policy he’s pursued in two months are tariffs, which like none of them like

Raising a family in Florida is grounds to be considered an unfit parent.
FL is moving forward w/ plan to end all childhood vaccine mandates. Starting with hepatitis B, chickenpox, and the bacteria causing meningitis and pneumonia. Then next year GOP FL legislature is expected to revisit 1977 law re: whooping cough, measles, polio, rubella, mumps, diphtheria, and tetanus.

Despite it all, I'm feeling good.

They're getting desperate and making mistakes.

More people and institutions are resisting.

They can still do a lot of damage, but we'll win.

The responses this post is getting, combined with the animating grievances of large swathes of politics, has convinced me we need a kind of society wide PSA about how Buying Things Is Optional.

You don’t think video games should cost $100? Don’t buy the videogame. Buying Things Is Optional.
AAA video games should cost $100 on launch. this would still be extremely cheap for the amount of time and enjoyment you get out of them! But an audience of whiny babies has kept them literally at the same price for *two decades* despite both general inflation *and* sector-specific costs rising

we don’t actually have to live our lives cringing in fear at bigots and thinking they’re more “real.” they’re not! they are not some magical Volk that we need to bow to!

I actually am a real American and so are my immigrant neighbors and all my queer and trans family. This is our house.

When you see someone spiraling out about what the Trump Administration might do, ask yourself: are they describing something the Trump Administration will do, or something it wishes it knew how to do?

It has been somewhat revealing to see who is and is not capable of making the distinction.

and, again: if they can prosecute you for going to No Kings, *they will prosecute you for something else*. you should put your name on the list because you have a right to do it and you can definitely stand in front of God and country and say you went to No Kings bc you believe it's your right
the total number of federal criminal cases which reached sentencing last year is roughly equivalent to 1% of the attendance of the first No Kings protest, or 2% of the people who put their name on a list

they don't have the capacity to compel obedience by violence.

the only lever by which they can obtain obedience is fear.
