Happy Birthday, Antonio Gramsci. #OnThisDay in 1891, the Sardinian Marxist was born. From Turin’s workers’ councils to founding the Communist Party of Italy, his Prison Notebooks - written under fascist imprisonment - reshaped Marxist thought on power and hegemony.
I came to Minneapolis to report on what's going on, and one of the main questions I showed up with is "just what is the scale of the resistance?" After all, we're all used to the news calling Portland a "war zone" or whatever when it's just some protests in one part of town.

We should! I'm in the middle of marking at the moment and there'll be teaching prep, but perhaps some time next month?

This is such a good read!

A response to many of the replies I'm getting - people comparing AI to the emergence of useful technologies are getting it wrong.

AI is not the wheel or computers. It is asbestos, it is leaf blowers. It is a more harmful version of something we can already do.
New— An American citizen boarding flight from Boston to Lisbon just now told me after showing boarding pass, every passenger stopped on jetway by two ICE agents demanding to take their photo. When passenger asked why, ICE threatened to detain them. If they said no photo, couldn't board/TBD detained.

I'm really proud to have been one of the lead authors of Oxfam’s global inequality report this year.

And honestly a bit overwhelmed by the impact it’s having this morning. When you’re used to your writing being read by a couple hundred fellow nerds, this is something else.

Looks to be an important, and politicised, contribution on conjunctural analysis. Very necessary at the moment!
I've written a piece on #ConjuncturalAnalysis, which has been published in the open access journal Coils of the Serpent. Drawing upon #Marxism and #CriticalRealism, I argue that the conjuncture is an ontological layer. 1/3

The single biggest thing (in cost terms) I’ve changed my mind about is UK tuition fees. Dreadful system, need to scrap it.
This is clearly depressing and radicalising in a way a tax wouldn't have been.

Jenrick the latest conservative voice to use Poland & Bulgaria as rhetoric vehicles to advance the 'broken Britain' narrative, it's SO BAD that EVEN EASTERN EUROPEANS are (close to) doing better than us.

But Poland's success isn't UK's failure. Two different stories, mixed up.
This is clearly depressing and radicalising in a way a tax wouldn't have been.
Thought I’d do a mega hread on NPR, partly because I’ve seen some London based commentary that doesn’t really get the bigger picture quite right imho

Congrats!
