This is the first skeet I see when I open this app for the first time today (in a busy WINDY day in Portland!).

I’m going to log off and go eat something and let this be my news of the day…
GREENLAND WILL NO LONGER BE INVADED DUE TO THE DEATH OF DONALD J TRUMP. THANK YOU FOR YOUR ATTENTION TO THIS MATTER.

Did @golikehellmachine delete his account?!

I just realized that I hadn’t seen his posts in days? And our DM conversation is gone?

If you, like me, spent way too much time in video stores back in the day, this 🧵is packed with nostalgia…
I know nostalgia for Blockbuster is a thing. I don’t really remember it that way. I remember it having fewer movies than the stores I went to as a kid. But I worked at Blockbuster when I was 17.

Here are some things that happened while I was there.

There’s kiddie porn on Twitter and nobody’s doing anything about it??? This evil fallen world will not let up!
I know I’m late to all the news these days, but I’m sorry WTF?! When did we start letting child pornography slip through the cracks?
Go back to calling it kiddie porn. The rebrand sucks!

@clairewillett.bsky.social were you at a showing of ‘Wicked’ at Lloyd Center Regal Saturday night?
I got real stoned on some of my edibles beforehand and was THAT black woman during the film. Near the end of the film, when it looks like the witches are about to kiss, I said in a stage whisper…

Damn Billy Joel is old AF!

Guess he’s prolly given the Downeaster Alexa to his kid since he’s too old to be fishing these days. 🥸
Who will stop the Piano Man's reign of terror?!

We just had a chat in Seattle before bed about this very thing.
My grandmama taught me that to extend grace to evil white men is to waste energy on the devil’s minions. They are always thinking bad thoughts about you, so it’s ok to think bad thoughts about bad people!
We’re people, not angels!
Not rejoicing in his terminal diagnosis, but i was hunting for something about ben sasse and was reminded of how most "liberal" commentators totally bought his 100% fake persona and got mad again

A man that looked like Fabio, naked, on a penny-farthing at a street fair in Austin, TX rode by us, pointed at me, & in a deep Texan drawl shouted, “you there, handsome black gent in your fab suit, you should benevolently rule us all, I feel, just based on your taste!”, then he rode off!
What's a compliment you'll never forget?
What's an insult you'll never forget?

I don’t mean to sound extreme, but I don’t think we should have torture camps for people with criminal records either.

Since this blew up, I should add that the most memorable part of out chat was her telling me of a recent photography contest where AI photos were banned from competition. After many elimination rounds, a winner was chosen. The winner announces on stage that he tricked everyone & his photo was AI.
Met a 40yo gallery-ist at a party in SF. We spent most of the party talking abt the art world, but mostly what she talked abt was how most of her life now is telling AI “artists” that they are not artists, she won’t sell their “work” in her gallery, & that “prompt writer” isn’t an artistic medium.

A miracle happened to me tonight.

At the Emeryville Amtrak station to head to Portland and the train is already pulling away from the station as I approach it with my bags. Knowing a lost cause as I watch it speed away, I dejectedly head back to station, only to find the train had stopped for me!😎

Roth in an ensemble in an R rated action comedy muppet flick written by Tarantino is something I’d see.
Wouldn’t let him direct tho. He’d agonize over doing something in his muppet movie that’s never been done in any muppet movie & ruin it. Him writing is looser & funnier, less spectacle more focus.
Tarantino Trek Film sounds like the sort of idea that a person who leaps to his feet yelling "Eureka! Eli Roth Muppet Movie!" would come up with
I’m sincerely glad his Star Trek movie never happened. And that’s such a weird thing to even say but the collision between his worst fans and trek’s worst fans? Like reeses’ but it’s lint and axe body spray not chocolate and peanut butter

As a chef I get asked constantly: what is your favorite thing to cook?

My answer: whatever I’m getting paid to cook.
What’s the worst question someone can ask after you tell them your profession? For linguists, it’s definitely “how many languages do you speak?”, but I’m curious what else is happening to the rest of y’all out there?!

1. Our Song
2. Bad Blood
3. You Belong with Me
4. I Know Places
5. Wonderland

This may have been the hardest one of these I can think that I’ve ever done.

And I don’t even known most of her catalog past ‘Lover’.
in no particular order

1. ivy
2. would've, could've, should've
3. the black dog
4. wonderland
5. epiphany

You’re right about this & PDX.
I am in the Bay presently, & riding my board around here w/ the waymo cars is a challenge for me & the bicyclists around me, but even more so the passengers in the Waymo! The cars are better at yeidlig than peeps, but they are too good at it & sometimes wait too long.
also, i think waymo's safety has to be extremely heavily caveated (and, to be fair, i think waymo does okay at this) - it's very difficult to see how they could ever operate in portland, for example, so while it's an interesting and novel technology, it's not even close to universally applicable

In my aborted documentary, all of the Trumpers that I interview on film are convinced that undocumented people get $2500/ mnth from the government plus free apartments, phones, and private school vouchers for their kids. They can not be unconvinced on this, no matter the evidence.
one argument thats always struck me as funny is the one about people coming to america to drain the budget of our many social services. such as free university, free healthcare, UBI, etc. you know, all those things we dont have

I’m not hip on UK politics, but I am hip to rock n roll history.

How is what Labour is proposing in the UK for immigrants any different that what Clapton got in trouble for about Enoch Powell all those years ago?

This Barro bro makes me so 😡!
I bet I scored higher on every standardized test we’ve ever taken jn common, I’ve managed orgs w 100s of ppl, & you cldnt find 1 who would say a negative word about me, yet bc I was born poor & blk, I don’t get to write op-eds, but slowly bleed to death of gum disease.
This guy is a dunce. Seriously. Imagine believing this. And I absolutely want to see Josh Barro take a timed test where he doesn't the internet or his parents around to help him with the answers.

Olberman, you’re getting slow in your old age. You should be deep into calling this quisling Megyn Skellytor or something fit for her true nature by now. Feel free to hurl it at her as your own. She deserves it, the monster.
I still call her Rachetness ‘Coultergiest’ to this day, thanks to you sir.😎
The other problem with the resurfacing of the old tapes in which Megyn Kelly 2018 was universally aghast at child rape rather than rationalizing much of it now is...it reminds us that there's something amiss with her new "look"

Aubrey Plaza, natch.
I am mentally casting this scene of Boebert getting cornered in the Situation Room by Patel, Bondi, etc., and wondering which actress could get an Oscar nomination for portraying this realization.
I am deliriously laughing at the image of Boebert facing dawning revelation that she's actually found the pedophile elite conspiracy ring and that she's standing right in the middle of it

Met this dude Scott Weiner out n about a few years back before he was a state senator and he’s the real deal!
Got a new story up, a profile of CA state senator and congressional candidate Scott Wiener, and a whole bunch of state housing politics and policy—to me, the totalizing political issue right now. Get people cheap housing near jobs and you fix *a lot*. www.motherjones.com/politics/202...
Scott Wiener defeated California’s NIMBYs. Can he fix America’s housing crisis?
By running for Nancy Pelosi's House seat, he's putting the abundance theory to the test.
