Starting to figure this place out.

Mostly I'm into politics, movies, neurospicy weirdness, comics, trans issues, the goofy gothy shit, navel gazing philosophy crap and linguistics? And cats. Also a gen x weirdo that's been around

The Marvel Universe has ruined people's ability to see a story as a self-contained entity. The whining about how hard the new James Bond script is to write is another example.

Listen I'm into comic crossovers too but there's a certain post modern singularity that happens when everything must connect to everything else that just flattens reality. No one needs to see Aaragorn shoot the shit with Ford Prefect about milkshakes.

I will never tire of reading about the Irish utterly destroying ones soul regarding your fashion choices with a well placed barb.
I am calling upon the people of Ireland to immediately begin construction of a thread on this site about how you or someone you know was roasted for a fashion choice. We need it.

All roasts must have come from Irish people *only*. Please respect this important rule, it makes a difference.

i think humans are, for the most part, inherently pretty good. we've been inundated in a world that teaches us to hurt others (and it hurts ourselves to do so as well) out of fear and repression, but it's not natural. if it was the few who AREN'T good wouldn't work so hard to keep it that way
"my least woke opinion is---"

That's enough. We've had enough people indulging in the "thrill of a little conservatism", as a treat. Of considering reactionary thought to be a salacious and taboo in a world descending into reactionary mania.

Give me your MOST woke opinions. We're bringing it back.

What is happening in Chicago now is not new. Nor is the response of the people who live here.

This is a quick read but one that provides some historical perspective on matters: chicagoreader.com/city-life/ch...
Chicago has always defied kidnappings of our neighbors - Chicago Reader
Even after the passage of the 1850 Fugitive Slave Act, local officials and everyday people resisted the legalized abductions of men, women, and children who had escaped slavery

Okay so one of the things that working in Healthcare during the pandemic did to my brain was somehow immolate the ease with which I read constantly and consistently. I really miss it. I'm just starting to get it back so this trend of books that blew your mind is really helping so thanks bluesky.
May I ask everyone today for the best books they’ve read in recent memory, nonfiction and/or fiction? Something that just blew your mind or knocked the wind out of you? Please give me elevator pitches with them also. I’ll start:

growing concerned watching the new james bond movie as it becomes apparent he isn’t going to give his customary 30-minute monologue explaining to the audience how he used to be like seven different guys
James Bond’s death in No Time to Die is causing a nightmare for the next film. Writers are stuck because Bond “was blown to pieces.”

Anthony Horowitz, author of three 007 novels, says:

“You can't have him wake up in shower and saying it was all a dream."

With my wack hospital schedule, my ability to really communicate all of this is limited. But thankfully, plenty of others are doing so.
I'm struck by how many Chicagoans have seemingly felt compelled to write and share reflections on "this is what it feels like in Chicago right now". We know we're going through something awful together and we want the world to understand it.

So my parent was a controller. She once told us this story about a skydiving plane getting too close to O'Hare's flight path. She alerted the pilot and he basically said "nah, I'm good I've done this before." Ten minutes later a frantic Delta pilot called in about bodies falling around them.
#GVerse Um. WTF???

Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy: "Pilots need to stop depending on air traffic controllers. They need to suck it up and go with their gut feelings."

This is the stupidest and most dangerous administration in history.

My grandparents lived in Hopatcong, so I never truly experienced the "Full Jersey" accent, but this feels accurate to me.
I think more people should confront the fact that Bruce Wayne--and most of the Batman supporting cast--more than likely have south New Jersey accents due to Gotham being right by Atlantic City, canonically

You may not be strong enough to confront this truth, but a truth it remains
