Btw about this from Lizza's reply: Olivia and I lived together for 4+ years (4 b'days, 4 Xmases, 4 anniversaries). That's like $1250 of jewelry per celebration. I used to go to WisCon pretty regularly decades ago, and it was nice to go to a (small) con without the neckbeards grousing. Some things should be put in the dust bin.

This happens every year, it seems. The SFWA awards a writer the Grand Master Award, and if that writer is not a white male, a portion of the fanbase begins complaining vociferously about the award winner.
These "fans" are, of course, white men, 45+ years old.

i think humans are, for the most part, inherently pretty good. we've been inundated in a world that teaches us to hurt others (and it hurts ourselves to do so as well) out of fear and repression, but it's not natural. if it was the few who AREN'T good wouldn't work so hard to keep it that way
