After Natalie Portman, Kiera Knightley, Sofia Coppola, and Keisha Castle-Hughes, Rose Byrne is now the fifth member of the Naboo royal court to be nominated for an Oscar.

Look, if I were directing a Masters of the Universe movie... I'd make it look EXACTLY like the old painted promotional art. Go for that Barbarella/Planet of the Vampires/Flash Gordon heightened Italian-adjacent comic book look, make it really POP!
Basically, it wouldn't look like a car commercial.

American capitalism doesn't believe in giving people a good product or service, they want to decide on behalf of consumers what they should buy and pay for. But that's always capitalism. It's best in competition but it aspires to monopoly & mergers, and when it gets there it'll kick the ladder away.

The Lakers are a good metaphor for LA. It’s easy to spot all of the celebrity fans sitting court side (making it easy to despise the team), but the theater lighting obscures the majority of fans you don’t see sitting in the rest of the arena - who are much more representative of LA.

Media selling LA as rich spoiled people to the gen pop is so funny. That's a tiny tiny percentage of this town. Most of LA is the people you see being disappeared. LA has the largest clothing manufacturing hub in the country and it ain't staffed by the likes of Brad Pitt and George Clooney.
I think a lot of the world looks at the US and sees 330 million spoiled, stupid rich people and I wish it was easier to explain why that's wrong to people who've only seen New York and maybe DC or LA, but you can never convince them that they don't understand the whole thing.

RIP Roger Allers, co-director of THE LION KING and story artist on THE LITTLE MERMAID, BEAUTY AND THE BEAST, ALADDIN, and so many others.

THE LION KING was the first movie I ever saw in theaters. I can't count the amount of times I watched it as a kid.

Genuinely baffled by how bad Discovery's "parody" of TOS's design is, it's frankly insulting to the brilliant production work that still holds up today.
Jealousy is a bad look

Once again I find myself thinking about how a single segment from one episode of pervert comedy anime Panty and Stocking was a better tribute to Jack Kirby's art than any of the ugly WB and Disney crap that's made millions off stealing his work

There isn’t one “Life of a Showgirl” album that sold what Forbes claims it has. Organizations that report on music sales really, really need to reconfigure their rubrics and stop lumping twenty or thirty different album variants together as one album.

supercomix syndrome. when the art is expendable and the artists are even moreso; even your CEO is a placeholder whose values have none, but the quarterly shareholder filing is non negotiable, so everything old must be new again: new beginnings guarantee a sale and endings can't afford to last either
It just bothers me how quickly IPs give up on stories nowadays. Everything is a reboot and then they reboot the reboot. Actors constantly getting younger and younger and origin stories constantly being retold.

Oh my God, just *commit* to something, and *stick* to it for a while!!!

semi-regular reminder that ICE was only created in 2003

when you are asked to imagine a world without ICE, you're basically being asked to remember where you were when Lilo & Stitch came out

Basically, what Mike Johnson is claiming is that ICE is just following orders.
Just.
Following.
Orders.
Mike Johnson comes out against additional guardrails on ICE as Democrats call for it.

“I think there's a lot of Democrats playing games right now with national security and with law enforcement. And I think it's dangerous. Ice is doing what ice is designed to do by its very name.”

Thank you for pointing this out! It was wild to realise a while ago that Tintin was quite literally on the ground floor when it came to ancient astronaut mythology, even before Von Daniken made it mainstream.
To round this whole thing off and come back to comics, the Tintin album "Flight 714 to Sydney" has a character called "Mik Ezdanitoff" who is a UFOlogist and believer in ancient astronauts, and he is both based on and drawn to resemble Jaques Bergier, one of the authors of Morning of the Magicians

As someone who got into Gen13 a while ago (ESPECIALLY Caitlin Fairchild), yes please to all this!
My goal for 2026 is to get Cybernary, Gen 13, and/or WildCATs into Supergirl.
