(once, i moonlighted as a dragon golem vtuber for a time. one day i shall do so again.)

if you're here you're here for 1 of 3 things: media criticism, dialectical materialism, or unhinged reposts of what i like.

ae/2501/maeth. do you know what the difference is between someone society treats as real and someone they treat as fictional? it's whether they experience consequences for how they use them. they can do anything they want to you if they know you don't really exist. so: do you know if you're real?

y'know, if tech companies weren't so fired up to call every single thing "AI" it would be a lot easier to distinguish "ML spam filter that is well-sandboxed and tuned on your emails" from "giant context and IP-eroding foundation model that makes people paranoid and unhappy"
since the "google is now training gemini on your email contents" thing keeps bumping around here: it's _not happening_. I say this not to defend google but because I know a lot of people that have broken their filtering and made their lives much more annoying from sheer misinformation.
The malwarebytes Google opting-your-emails-into-ai-training thing is not true. The post is based on one bad tweet.

I know anti-tech lamenting is a Bluesky core principle, but please use the same judgement you would for any other clickbait.

“what if they change their mind later” is never asked about cis kids going through puberty, even though they might be trans, which reveals that cis people view transness as a defect
The only truly irreversible thing a trans child is likely to do is take their own life. "What if they do something irreversible?" actually means "theyre not allowed to make a decision!"

You cant undo or reverse any decision you make, you can simply change your mind later and handle the consequences

i have some inchoate thoughts about how the brief Swinging London fad for music-history revival was part of an effort to make pop function more like film and literature, where historical recreation is part of the standard toolkit, but having to please a youth audience made it unsustainable longterm

Heads up: New Thief 2 level by one of Arkane's senior level designers and director of The Black Parade for Thief 1.

If he says it's his most ambitious work to date, you KNOW it's going to be amazing.
My new Thief 2 Fan Mission, Reflection in Red, is out! I am very proud of this one, and it is by far my most ambitious work in the Dark Engine to date. www.ttlg.com/forums/showt...

Not to be overbearing but this is called a sense of foreshortened future and it is a common feature of trauma
Does anyone else feel like stress, financial pressure, and political strife have shortened your life? Not in a "I'm going to die sooner" way, but in a "I can only plan to survive a week at a time and there is no future to look forward to" sort of way. It's like...the PERCEPTION of life is shorter.

The RevCom dweebs are a cult and they try to co-opt everything they touch.
In the last 24 hours I’ve seen a bunch of my friends at the #RemoveTheRegime protests used by the front-group “#RefuseFascism.” I only recently became aware of who they are and of their history of co-opting and sabotaging movements. So I wrote this warning.

Important update: I have received word from insiders that Crunchyroll executives have deemed the user backlash to be small enough that their subtitle enshittification & OOONA plans will NOT be cancelled, only delayed.

I have added an update to the article. There's a summary at the top now too.
New article on ★ daiz.moe

Crunchyroll is destroying its subtitles for no good reason
daiz.moe/crunchyroll-...

A ton of research and effort went into this one. This is the article to read to get to the bottom of Crunchyroll's subtitle changes!

Replies here will show up as comments (eventually)
Crunchyroll is destroying its subtitles for no good reason | Daiz.moe
With the Fall 2025 anime season, Crunchyroll demonstrates zero respect for anime as a medium as the presentation quality of its subtitles reach an all-time low.

fun question for the wider bluesky reading audience, should they choose to avail themselves of the tabs that provide it: of the various flavors of "parallel world"/"portal fantasy" fiction that you have personally read ... when's the last time you read one that acknowledged menstrual cycles exist?

Seems like they had a source in the chat & not that they’re able to hack into signal or get the records via warrant. Important distinction for organizers & guardian article should’ve made it more clear.

They are spying ON ORGANIZERS, not just the signal chat. Understand how they will come after you
WHOA. The FBI was/is spying on a Signal chat for a New York immigration court watch group, claiming they were “anarchist violent extremist actors.”

Your reminder that the government is watching and don’t say anything in a big group chat you wouldn’t say on TV.

I once knew a Federal bank examiner, and one time someone asked him why we had to KEEP inspecting banks over and over. He basically said every new batch of business school grads invents bank fraud from first principles.
AirBnB CEO calling it “vibe revenue” just 👨‍🍳 😘

The underlying cause of every bubble - debt masquerading as financial innovation - depends on not just short financial memory & speculative neophytism, but reinventing jargon of finance, like how each generation of kids has new ways to say same things.
