Soggy is such a perfect word to describe the current government
It's bad enough having a soggy Labour government returning to its pre-1994 ideas, badly. But the people who believe that they are actually supporting some kind of 'moderate' government really do tick it up a notch.

Something absolutely perfect about Larry Summers riffing about the scourge of woke cancel culture being unfair to predatory men in a friendly email to his pal JEFFREY EPSTEIN.

In light of current reminders about how powerful rich men exploit and assault young women under the safety and guise of various forms of “employment,“ just wanna give a shout out to NYT for this gem last week where we learned about how #metoo *actually* ended harming the workplace. 🙄

This case really reinforces my concern about the British state and its attitude towards data. Orders being treated as mere requests to be actioned at will. Junior staff members making blanket assertions about IT systems. It is all rather Horizon-like.

All the repeated disclaimers in this thread still aren't enough to stop the bsky reply guys
I’m a crank in that, contingent on it actually working, (which is again, yes, a huge very sci-fi if), I would be fine with this. Probably take an expansive vision of harm where robo-PO him from even being around kids, but otherwise, sure. Preventing harm is the only moral rationale for incarceration
imagine John Wayne Gacy, fully integrated into society, followed awkwardly by a robot that looks like the Greendale Human Being and grabs him whenever he lurches towards a young boy

Here’s the same data, but with trust broken down by political views (circles are trust among people on the left, +s the right).

It’s not just that the BBC is widely consumed — it also has solid trust on both left & right, whereas trust in the biggest US media brands is hugely polarised.

Maybe Keir should demand the heads of major US news networks any time they imply Britain is on the brink of civil war or that we live under sharia law. Or does it not work both ways?

Headline from a serious and long working paper on the economic impact of Brexit. Possible that this has been feeding into OBR and HMT discussions?

GUIL: Abandoning the norms of coin-flipping may also be the key to tails winning.

A fun question. In 5 years time, what looks better? The US’s enormous bet & capex on AI? Or China’s equally enormous bet and capex on renewables?
China has made cheap, clean energy available in huge quantities. The world should take the win econ.st/4oqFszB

There’s a fairly reasonable chance that, if you look around, you’ll spot something purple right now. (I did – it’s a massive pillow.) Purple absolutely definitely exists. You apologise to Alice Walker, right now!

So - exactly why is it the internet thinks the colour purple does not exist?
Some notes on the non-existence of purple
The colour light forgot.
