Building Power

I hope we all understand that the extraction class is building a state media akin to what we've seen in Orban's Hungary and Putin's Russia, and it is not at all subtle.

What's left of the independent press needs to start framing this properly.
New: Washington Post Executive Editor Matt Murray and HR Chief Wayne Connell tell employees to stay home for a zoom webinar ahead of “significant actions across the company.” Widely expected layoffs are scheduled to begin today.

Mackenzie Scott will not save the Washington Post. It's done. A billionaire murdered it and billionaires will not save us.

Support local and independent news, friends. Here are some starter packs.

JEFFRIES:
We can do this the easy way or the hard way.

TRUMP:
The hard way.

[ONE WEEK LATER]

JEFFRIES:
I was not prepared for that.
Donald Trump must fire Kristi Noem immediately.

Or Democrats will initiate impeachment proceedings against her in the House.

We can do this the easy way or the hard way.

I cannot think of a person whose take on this I care about less. My dude your job is to cover the administration and the political culture that created the conditions of a bleak day like today before it happens, not post what you think is pretty prose after it’s a fait accompli.

When I moved to NY I was shocked (and furious) to see a lot of Beto merch. I quickly discovered the role of the Texas democratic party has never been to win elections, but to serve as a fundraising arm for the nat’l party.
the texas democratic senate primary is deeply mind numbing because Jasmine Crockett and James Talarico believe basically the same things at their core but they're both rorshach tests for whatever you already believe about Texans and their voting preferences

Notable bits from this email:
- WaPo search has declined by half in three years
- Daily story output has "substantially fallen" in the last five years
- Murray argues: "we too often write from one perspective, for one slice of the audience."

Part of why we are in the mess we are in is USians have a problem with letting go, we have issues with grieving.

Another thing to note for reporters outside of LA: the host contract with LA28 is with the city, not the county. And similar to the way four votes could stop this committee vote, we’d only need eight votes to stop a full council vote because we only have 15 councilmembers (SORRY WE’RE WORKING ON IT)
Here's my list so far. The reason I'm noting the members of the council's ad hoc Olympics and Paralympics committee (on right) is that there are only seven members of that committee and theoretically four votes could halt LA28-related legislative decisions

I know its sad to see a paper be destroyed but we have to move forward and support the small independent publications and journalists doing good work. Let the washington post die, make the NYT die.

We are yelling at and constantly ridiculing the Republicans, but we also expect them to be total sacks of shit. The Democrats, however, keep saying they stand for us, yet they aren’t doing shit, so we yell at them too. It’s not hard to figure out.
Again, I know everyone wants to yell at The Democrats & Chuck Schumer & Hakeem Jefferies, but there are 10-25 people in Washington who could literally end all of this tomorrow, & none of them are Democrats, & they continue to get 24/7 free passes for being absolute oath-violating cowards. Focus.
Yes, we’re looking at you, Lisa Murkowski & Susan Collins & Thom Tillis, you absolute oath-violating cowards.

I, and anyone with a semblance of a brain, know exactly where those 10-25 goddamn soulless monsters stand on the issues at hand.

The problem is that the Democrats STILL WANT TO WORK WITH THEM AND BE BESTIES WITH SAID OATH-VIOLATING COWARDS.

THAT is why they get yelled at more.

Chuck Schumer wants to still be able to deport people.
Federal agents tear-gassed demonstrators and children in Portland.

An agent in Colorado stole a woman’s phone and threw her to the ground.

The disgraced former head of Border Patrol urged mass arrests.

This isn't what Americans signed up for. We must rein in ICE.
