This part of our response essay is where I'm at. Boiling down all of politics to electoralism has been absolutely terrible for resisting rising authoritarianism.

We are yelling at and constantly ridiculing the Republicans, but we also expect them to be total sacks of shit. The Democrats, however, keep saying they stand for us, yet they aren’t doing shit, so we yell at them too. It’s not hard to figure out.
Again, I know everyone wants to yell at The Democrats & Chuck Schumer & Hakeem Jefferies, but there are 10-25 people in Washington who could literally end all of this tomorrow, & none of them are Democrats, & they continue to get 24/7 free passes for being absolute oath-violating cowards. Focus.
Yes, we’re looking at you, Lisa Murkowski & Susan Collins & Thom Tillis, you absolute oath-violating cowards.

I, and anyone with a semblance of a brain, know exactly where those 10-25 goddamn soulless monsters stand on the issues at hand.

The problem is that the Democrats STILL WANT TO WORK WITH THEM AND BE BESTIES WITH SAID OATH-VIOLATING COWARDS.

THAT is why they get yelled at more.

Chuck Schumer wants to still be able to deport people.
Federal agents tear-gassed demonstrators and children in Portland.

An agent in Colorado stole a woman’s phone and threw her to the ground.

The disgraced former head of Border Patrol urged mass arrests.

This isn't what Americans signed up for. We must rein in ICE.

Seems real bad that the end point of ~25 years of War on Terror architecture is an agency of thin-skinned goons who will send armed men to your house if you email the government asking for compassion on behalf of someone else.

People really need to think about chuck this way. He just said his primary objective as sen minority leader is to get aid to Israel. He doesn’t care what you, his constituent wants or thinks.
we say this guy chases polls or the Baileys or whatever, but the reality is that he’s just misaligned with Democrats. the polling is clear that this is not what Democrats want.

Chuck is an ideological, pro-cop centrist. He’s saying this because it’s his policy preference. It’s what he wants.
Democrats want commonsense reform for ICE:

End the roving patrols and racial profiling.

Take accountability and abide by the same rules as local police.

Masks need to come off, body cameras need to stay on—no secret police in the United States of America.

Once DHS has that info, I don't know what barrier would prevent DHS turning it over to FBI/DOJ for prosecution

(among the many other problems with all of this): is FBI/DOJ now able to use DHS as a Trojan horse to get around needing (real) search warrants for the purpose of prosecuting US citizens

If Google is turning over user email data with nothing but a DHS administrative warrant I would assume until proved otherwise it is also turning phone location info over to immigration
Floored by this story. A man wrote a pollite email to a federal prosecutor objecting to the deportation of an Afghan seeking asylum. DHS responded with an administrative warrant to get the man's info from Google, then visited his home to intimidate him.

Of course, building 100,000s of units of infill would (a) derisk the pool and (b) provide Californians in fire risk areas an alternative. Unfortunately, the state has opted for the "suicide pact" option.

This is partly connected to land use policy and NIMBY restrictions.

In the aftermath of each mountain/rural fire (not LA) you see people saying they moved out there because it was all they could afford.

I say this as a victim and as a lawyer and as a journalist and as a woman in public, no one, literally no one in power, cares about victims of sexual violence. This is why they promise women more police and prisons (allegedly to help them) while fancy men who are friends with Epstein go free.
